i'm a former catholic born into catholicism. when i was a kid i always thought the alters and all of the ornate items in the entire church in general would be worth some serious money that could really help people. i always thought the eucharist with the chalice and it's value could really quench hundreds of people in real life. it could literally save real people lives. i couldn't never get over those type of thoughts when i went to church.
First, not sure what you mean with your vampires and ghosts comment. I have regularly gone to Mass for 56 years and not once has vampire come up and the only 'ghost' is the Holy Spirit which is not confined to Catholics. As stated before, Catholics pray to Saints to intercede on their behalf. How often do you see posters on Clutchfans ask folks to pray for their loved ones who may be sick? Why don't they skip that and just ask God themselves? It's the same premise. We ask our friends, the Saints, to pray for us or our loved ones or whatever. It is also essential to realize that the Mass is a prayer. It opens and closes with the sign of the cross. I am not sure why you say Catholics don't speak to God from the heart. I have ample opportunity during my life to do so. In addition, there are opportunities during Mass. I have been to Mass in different languages and due to the worldwide concept of the Mass, I knew exactly what was going on at all times. Due to the cyclical nature of the readings, I was able to follow along even though I was unable to read the language.
I think the vast majority of the confusion just comes down to many people's ignorance on what Catholics actually believe, and then also the fact that there are so many sub-denominations of Catholicism it just exasperates the issue.
Live and let live people. If we can ALL do that, we can begin to find whatever blessings this world has to offer. Far too often people attack others for not sharing their beliefs or non beliefs, life is too short for any of that nonsense.
I'm not Catholic, but I really enjoyed Ghosts of Girlfriends Past. WAIT, IS THIS NOT THE CONFESSIONAL?
In the class she's taking notes Just how deep, deep is my throat Mother Mary don't you know She's got eyes like Marylin Monroe From the cross she's raised her head This is what the sister said Give no love until you're wed Live no life until you're dead The good books says we must suppress The good books says we must confess But who cares what the good books says Now she's taking off her dress Catholic school girls rule Lead us do not into temptation We are pure divine creation Talking about my generation Injected with the seed of emasculation Catholic
I wasn't talking about vampires and ghosts being talked about in Mass, but out of it. A lot of Catholics I know are contradictory to their faith when you talk to them and they tell you what they fear. Fine, i get all that. But why do you do it? Who says you have to pray to saints? A lot of stuff in Catholicism is so scripted. I'm not saying this with ignorance; the passing of my grandma, people came and read from stuff online out loud to others about how they felt about her. None of it was their own words. This stuff is crazy to me. There are more ridiculous instances of Catholics i will share later.
The chalice is worth very little..... the "ornate" items in the Church are often cheaply made now, and the ones that are not are typically very old and have been used for years. The Catholic church gives a great deal to charities.
Why do you care? Are you here trying to convert Catholics? If so, implying they and how they express their faith are stupid probably isn't the best method.
"Hi Catholics, can we talk about how much you and your religion are stupid? I want to have an honest, open discussion about it sucking so hard." Yeah, Catholics have nothing to do with the Bible. Other than, you know, creating it, interpreting it for over the years, and being the reason that Christianity survived.
i can submit anecdotal evidence about any race, gender, religion, etc. as well. i do not know the people you speak of so i cannot comment about their beliefs. i can only speak to the actual tenets of the Catholic church and vampires and ghosts are not among them. As I mentioned, Catholics ask Saints to intercede on their behalf. Have you never asked for someone to pray for you or a loved one? What better person to ask to pray on your behalf than such a holy person? I have practiced and studied the Catholic Faith for my entire life. I find comfort, peace and grace in the tradition and the tenets of my faith. I find love and selflessness in the charitable acts of the church. The entire Mass is, in essence, scripted. Why does that matter to you? When my father passed away, my sister gave a beautiful eulogy, from her heart and in her own words. At every single funeral I have attended, one or more people, including the Priest, spoke in unscripted words. Perhaps you should have asked the people who spoke at your grandmother's funeral why they did not use their own words to memorialize and honor her, rather than generalizing a faith shared by over a billion people.
I'll never understand the people out there who just can't wait to prove that the earth is flat by denouncing and form of religion.
If you can first explain why anyone ever thought that was sexy, like nurse uniforms or those black panties that connect to leggings with strings.
My mom started going to some Assembly of God church in Mont Belvieu when I was in high school; she dragged me there a couple of times and after the main sermon they would play some music and every one would start screaming and shaking, and the two ushers would walk around with a quilt and throw it on anyone who got really intense. Seeing white people act like that up close just recalibrates everything.
Does the doctrine of transubstantiation mean that you truly think that the wafer and wine literally turn into the body and blood of Christ? Is that where the vampire stuff comes in?
