Trying to help a friend with this issue. Says computer froze, restarted, won't go through startup in safe modes or last known config. From what I found, it's a problem with avg antivirus, anyway to stop it from loading at startup?

Apparently, there is a disc one can download from avg that may help, but we aint got no time fo dat right now.

    Any help is appreciated!

unlikely issue since its a home pc but try to unplug the network connection and/or the disable the wifi prior to booting.

sometimes there is an issue with a pc booting after it has too many av programs on it. it usually happens for computers on a domain but its worth a shot.

Thanks, did try that, as well as unplugging all usb devices on it, still won't work.

From what I remember with from my past job, it also hangs at the avg.dll file.

I forgot what we did to fix it. My best guess would be to reinstall Windows or boot from a Windows CD and repair the installation or system restore.

Yeah I would try this first since it is the easiest fix through windows repair. Otherwise get a boot cd online like Hirens, ultimate boot disk, or ubuntu and search for the file and delete the file and program also since it probably is corrupted.

It wouldn't start up, even in safe mode at the time. Now, it startsup, freezes a bit after logging in and then everything seems normal, but within 2-3 minutes it becomes very slow, in any mode, which makes it impossible for me to uninstall it.

But I'm thinking that's not the problem though. I may be assuming too much, as I've read just because it lagged at avg doesn't mean it's the cause.

I'll look into the boot cd

Tried system restore earlier, but the restore points were all gone, except for one after the issue started, which unsurprisingly didn't help.
