I would love that. We would need to throw in more- picks and things, and even then then I'm not sure if Atlanta would do the trade.

Maybe Milsap for the second unit. I don't want T Jones to be slowed down by anything at this point. He will be a force by the end of the year. I would rather get a perimeter defender or someone who can be Chandler Parsons insurance in case CP's back becomes a problem.

Millsap = leadership, veteran presence, mid-range jumper, playoff experience.

    You've got the job, son.

I'm content to roll with Jones as the starting PF and focus on getting a starting caliber PG and either a back-up big or a wing defender with some athleticism and a three point shot

You do realize that more than 2 bigs play in the rotation a game right???

More than likely the only player whose minutes would suffer would probably be Casspi.

Alot of people here are really in love with Jones right now, but there is still no question in my mind that -

    A. Paul Millsap is a much better player than anyone who has played the PF spot for the Rockets since maybe Scola (possibly even better all-around game)
    B. The Rockets definitely need more depth
    C. The Rockets need more reliable veterans.

Millsap would be a very welcome addition to the Rockets rotation, and wouldn't kill anyone's rotation minutes that is earning their keep.

    I am fine with
    Asik to Atlanta
    Hou 2014 #1 to Brooklyn
    Plumlee and Milsap to Houston

    Beverley / Lin / Brooks
    Harden / Garcia
    Parsons / Casspi
    Milsap / Jones / Dmo
    Howard / Plumlee

If the Rockets do trade Asik for Millsap, I fully expect TJones to get traded as well.

Think about it. A trade for a PF of Millsap's caliber would obviously mean the Rockets aren't totally comfortable with going to war (I hate that term, but can't come up with a better one) with Jones.
Meanwhile, Casspi has been simply fantastic as the small-ball 4 of the bench and I don't see the Rockets moving him pretty much under any scenario. He's way more value to the Rockets than he is to other teams.
So... unless you want to play Jones at backup center and pass up on selling high... Jones, too, is gonna get traded, if the Rockets end up trading for Millsap.

The question is...will Millsap ACCEPT coming off the bench and with limited minutes?

Right now Jones' value is higher than it ever was, and...we still need a backup center.

Whatever trade we make, there needs to be a small forward in the mix that can take some of Chandler's minutes. I would love to see Leoul (sp ck) Deng come off the bench for us in that SF role. I like his ability to score and play D and starter when Chanlder's back acts up. The trick is getting him to come off the bench for a contender.

Don't like the Millsap becuase he can't guard the SF.

If the Rockets get Milsap I do think it says that they aren't necessarily comfortable handing the keys to the kingdom to Jones long term, but that doesn't necessarily mean that they are just wanting to throw him in as just a throw away piece.

However it does make Jones available for a potentially bigger trade later on in a package with Lin. Jones probably would be the main sweetener in that deal, and big driving force in that package. I'm doubtful that the Rockets would actively ship Lin & Jones just for kicks, but if a decent player is made available I wouldn't be the least surprised if that package becomes the involved in talks.

In the meantime, there can be at least 4 bigs in any NBA rotation. Milsap & Jones are very versatile bigs who can do alot for that rotation.

Casspi has been quite the find, but I think its a little carried away to think that the Rockets wouldn't take this kind of upgrade to the rotation because his minutes are that valuable. The fact is Milsap is a better player than Jones or Casspi any day of the week. I'm not too worried with Casspi or D-Mo falling out of the rotation as insurance in case of injury, and I'm sure Morey isn't either.

Agreed. I think it's plausible that the Rockets would hold onto Jones for a while after trading for a PF -- see if the Suns plan on buying out Okafor and who else might become available at the deadline -- but I'd fully expect Jones to be gone after the deadline.

Who cares who starts? Both Millsap & Jones would play plenty of minutes on this team. It's Casspi/Garcia that likely see their minutes reduce. I'm excited about Jones, too, but you guys just aren't thinking when you say something like you don't want a player like Millsap on this roster. And that isn't even getting into how awesome of a trade chip his contract/flexibility would be next season.

"limited minutes".... I think he wouldn't be incredibly happy with, but he's a veteran who has always been a class act throughout his career.

Coming off the bench.... I think he would be totally fine with. He did it for years with Utah when they had Boozer and was a very affective 6th man.
