Yes, I'll agree with you (in disagreeing with durvasa) on this one. I think more than a few teams know they're an Asik away from being really good.

Unfortunately, many of those teams are not in the Eastern Conference. But even in the East there are teams that want to step up from mediocre to good.

Asik did have to be reminded to quit pouting like a rhymes-with-glitch, but Morey and McHale have only themselves to blame for that.

    I'm sure we're one player-who-can't-be-traded-til-December-15 away from a deal.

If Morey trades for Millsap it's only so he can package Jones in another trade, but I don't see it happening. The dude is high production, on a cheap contract. Morey loves those guys!

I think the Alphabet rumor has legs. It's classic Morey all the way, a young player oozing with potential, the perfect type of player to use as bait to get another star. Stick him in the D League, with Canaan, and watch him dominate. Worst case scenario, more depth for our future dynasty.

Trading for another starting 4 would be a mistake period.

Agreed..too much stuff pointing to the Bucks starting with Doc Rocket's tweet.

Personally I think we've already got a deal on the table for Ilyasova and an expiring contract for Lin. The ongoing dialogue is probably centered around Asik/Sanders/Giannis/pick. I really think Milwaukee is trying to get rid of Sanders and I think they want Asik as his replacement. Asik/Henson is a nice combo up front. With Lin/Mayo in the back court they're a SF away from being relevant. They obviously don't want to give up Giannis but I'd bet Morey is holding them to Giannis or their draft pick to get Asik and take back Sanders. He's probably asking for both Giannis and the pick with us sending DMo somewheres else for a pick or Sf for Milwaukee.

I like any of those deals as long as we get either Milwaukee's pick or Giannis to go with Sanders. Sanders' contract could turn into a boat anchor if he continues on his present course of bone-headedness. But the potential of a lottery pick in this draft or Giannis makes Sanders' contract trade-able at the deadline.

No to ersan, $8mill a year until 2017, not worth the risk

    3pt 25% this season
    3pt 16% in December
4.5 reb. per game this season

He's definitely looked to have taken a huge step back this year, and can't even hold his starting spot on a bottom 5 team in the league. What makes us think that he can hold the starting spot on the Rockets?

Milwaukee will not be trading "The Alphabet." They adore this kid.

I've repeatedly argued that Houston and Milwaukee are logical trading partners. The moving parts will be Omer Asik and/or Jeremy Lin and/or Donatas Motiejunas (from Houston) and Ersan Ilyasova and/or Caron Butler's expiring contract and/or a Bucks first round pick (from Milwaukee).

Note that we may instead see Asik get traded to, say, Boston, and Lin to Milwaukee.

Also note that Houston can re-direct Ilyasova or an expiring contract or two, along with a pick, possibly, to a free falling Bulls team for free agent-to-be Luol Deng. This would be Morey's ideal outcome right now. Asik, Lin, and Motiejunas out, Deng and a first round pick in. Houston walks away with the best player in the deal (Deng) AND a first round pick. I think this is what Morey is trying to make happen right now. Kevin Love likely remains the primary target but Deng is the more realistic one. Plus you can later (mid-February) offer Deng, Terrence Jones, first round picks, etc. for Love if you want.

Note that Chandler Parsons, Deng, and Jones would form a three-man forward rotation, with each player receiving around 32 minutes/game. Francisco Garcia and Omri Casspi would be out of the rotation. Probably Greg Smith enters the rotation (12-16 minutes/game) as Howard's backup. Aaron Brooks is Lin's replacement as the third guard until Isaiah Canaan is ready to take over that role in February or March.

I would love it if you were right and Morey could pull this off. Sounds fantastic, but somehow I think we might end up being disappointed with a meh trade. Morey's habit of pulling rabbits out of his hat has completely spoiled us.

Very logical, well thought out, possibly doable, and definitely something that would peak Morey's interest. I like it. Fits right in with what I am predicting about Lin and if Milwaukee gives up their 2014 first then it's game on.

If Milwaukee gave up their 2014 first (and it's obviously unlikely) the sound you'd hear would be the collective clutchfans p*rn-groan heard round the world.

If Morey could pull off Caron Butler and a protected first round pick, I would be very happy.

Butler gives you a veteran defensive presence to take Garcia's and/or Casspi's minutes. Morey may be able to get him on a fair deal in the offseason if he really wants to play for a winner. That would be a total win now move that wouldn't kill the future cap space.

Not in a million years do we get their pick. They are lotto bound, however, I do believe they have two extra second round picks in next year's draft, so maybe Morey could pry those away.

Philly has another first round pick (protected), so they might be more willing to give it up.

Why is trading Asik taking so long, don't teams have discussions ahead of time? Why go down to the wire?... I'm anxious

Yeah, against my better judgment I recently posted a random trade involving us getting the lesser of the two Philly first rounders in 2014 (more likely New Orleans'). It is far more likely to get that pick (10-14?) than Milwaukee's.

Milwaukee fan forums tend to believe their aging owner is in more of a win-now mode, but I don't know if that would translate into him being silly enough to trade Greek Freak or a Top 10 in this year's draft (however protected).

Philly? Doc Rocket seems to think that whatever we're cooking over there might involve us throwing in a sweetener, but whether or not that amounts to throwing a 2nd rounder or Reese's pieces into the mix, I don't know.

Dec 15th is the first day that a player that was signed to a new deal this Summer can be traded.

Dec 19th is the deadline for players to be traded and then still be eligible to be traded again in February at the deadline.

Asik will surely be dealt in this window. obviously they are waiting for a player they are targeting to be available after the 15th.. hence why you hear Milsap's name mentioned so much here as a likely candidate. It could be someone else too though, and they are needing the salaries of other players that were signed this Summer to complete the transaction. The Rockets are keeping their plans very close to the chest as they usually do.

Make sure you follow Woj. on Twitter or just check CF occasionally starting Sunday morning.

If we're trading Lin and Asik, then we must be trying to get into the 2014 free agent pool, especially if we only take back picks and expiring contracts.

    Bledsoe - Player Option
    Wade - Player Option
    Stephenson - Unrestricted
    Hayward - Restricted
    Deng - Unrestricted
    LeBron - Player Option
    Melo - Player Option
    Nowitzki - Unrestricted
    Monroe - Restricted
    Pau Gasol - Unrestricted
    Duncan - Player Option
    Bosh - Player Option

Assuming the salary cap was set at $59.5 million, the Rockets could have $17 million available in cap assuming:

    Traded
    Lin
    Asik
    DMo
    TJones
Garcia (or he just declines his player option)

    Waived/Declined/Unsigned
    Brewer
    Casspi
    Smith
    Covington
    Brooks

    Retained
    Howard
    Harden
    Parsons
    Beverley
    Canaan

$17 million won't get you LeBron, Melo, Wade or Bosh, but I could see a guy like Nowitzski being very interested.

What if we offered 2 years $34 million to Nowitzski and then made a run at Durant in 2016???

Good thought process. But Dirk is committed to staying in Dallas for his career. He's gonna sign a low ball deal there and attempt to get one of those other guys on your list to join him.

However the threat of free agency can do a lot in the trade market.

I am convinced Morey is gonna do his best to unload Asik/Lin for as much expiring salary/young talent/picks as he possibly can by Dec. 19th so he can make a run at one of those player on your list at the trade deadline.

We've focused so much on 2015 free agency (Love/Aldridge), that I think we've skipped over what could be a very good free agency in 2014.

I do wonder....if the Heat don't make the finals, and Lebron with all his sponsorships was willing to take less.......
