    hey man,

sorry for the ignorance, I thought paleo eliminated all foods prior to the agricultural era of man, meaning most, if not all, foods eaten are the same as from the hunter-gatherer era, as such eliminating grains and a great deal of carbs.

I'm not sure who I heard say this, perhaps it was Tim Ferris, but even fruits, a simple carb, were taken out of the diet; but that may also be due to the fact that the fruit we eat nowadays are mutated processed shades of their former selves.

I said 6%, not 5%... which is a big difference as you start approaching essential fat.

Look, I've been a trainer for 7 years and have seen all kinds of body types as well. It's very possible Dwight was under 6% at his peak.

By your definition, guys like Aaron Brooks, Dahntay Jones, George Hill should be around 8-10%. Those guys have (or had) some of the lowest in the league, even as low as 2.7%!

Even Shaq was recorded a solid 12.2% entering the draft in 1992.

Generally speaking, your assessment seems about accurate, with a huge exception to the veins, and all of that (because you can have low body fat and not "pump" up your muscles, you know -- see some marathon runners). But, I would not doubt Dwight being under 6% (again, I'll say 6%, like I said before).

Of course, I will add the obvious disclaimer that measuring these things can have human error and both sides of the extremes (obese/too skinny) are hard to measure with a simple caliper... but, if I were to measure something like 2.7% I would check a few extra times to see if I was wrong.

    1. You said "under 6%". Which would mean 5% or less.... which is what I said.

    2. 2.7% is physically impossible to maintain. In males, a minimum of 3% of body fat consists of "essential body fat". This is body fat stored in bone marrow, organs, CNS, and muscles.

"Storage fat" is the fat that you see under the skin that people lose or gain. This is the "expendable" fat.

If you somehow get below 3%, you would feel like crap and you would not be healthy at all. I don't even think it is possible.

    3. Not a chance Dwight was ever 5% at any point in his career. 5% is like body-builder shredded where you cannot pinch an ounce of fat on your body. You may have been a trainer, but you are not a doctor.

Really pointless to argue about BF, as it was probably a mix of human error and Dwight getting ready for the measurement ahead of time to get a lower reading. There's probably some rounding down as well.

Cool man, you can have your opinion. I was just stating mine as a possibility and stated under what credentials my opinion was under.

...but I'm doing physio, hydro & start my gym program next week.

I'm at 115kg (253lbs) up from my 90kg (198lbs) before surgery. I'm 6'1" & it's killing me looking at my form now, but I'm to blame. I got lazy after surgery and through a lot go my good eating habits out the window.

    Diet is key.

Well said, it think people use the term paleo or primal just to give an idea of what type of diet they try to eat. It isn't a low carb diet, it's eating less processed foods and eating natural whole foods. That has been proven to improve health.

There is so much money to be made from the production of the crap food that is sold to us. Almost every processed food has genetically modified wheat or corn in it. While the rest of the world isn't allowing the the sale of or at least is requiring the labeling of genetically modified food our government is more concerned about the money than our health.

I better stop, but I'm glad to see Dwight is eating good.

Found this on the same website:
    http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/23422857

"A low-carb diet kills tumor cells with a mutant p53 tumor suppressor gene: the Atkins diet suppresses tumor growth."

Just some facts. Over 10% of men will suffer from kidney stones. We are 10 times more likely to get kidney stones than women. You have a 50% chance of getting kidney stones if one of your parents had them. Read up on how to avoid them. Cutting down on red meats, dairy, tomatoes, chocolate and especially alcohol and sodas should help.

the key is making it yourself, instead of eating the processed stuff made by companies (Or rather, the fact that they stuff anything and everything with high fructose corn syrup).

Oh, that's no good? What was wrong with that? I had a different interpretation! Do you know anything about this pretzel guy? Maybe he's been in the bar a really long time and he's really depressed because he has no job, no woman, and he's parking cars for a living!
