I said the Texans should draft Wilson in the 1st round, and everybody yelled and said I was crazy.... "he's too small", "he will get injured", "failed as a baseball player, will fail as a football player", "big10 sucks"... I heard it all from people like you. This time, I am creating a spreadsheet of dumb statements about teddy bridgewater. Trust me, you do not want to be on that list. lol, except you already are! i can't wait to revisit 2 years from now
I am with you on drafting Bridgewater but you are starting to sound like Sheldon from the Big Bang Theory.
Ha ha... Are you serious? Sheldon is my favorite character on the TV series the big Bang Theory. He is a genius but a little anal. That's something he would do, keep a spreadsheet to keep track of his enemies quotes. Funny stuff... You have to watch sometime if you really haven't seen it.
The situation would feel better if our front office could be trusted. Whatever they do hopefully it works out.
Jim Parsons aka Sheldon, is from Houston and is a huge rockets fan. (And everything else sports wise with Houston)
I have to say, I'm really torn about this draft. I was lukewarm on Bridgewater a while ago, but the more I see, the more I like him. I think his pocket presence is just exceptional. Putting Clowney and Watt on the same D-Line though? My god, it would be unstoppable. A really, really tough decision.
The way I see it: QB is a necessity. Clowney is a luxury. Him & Watt is a thing of beauty. But our offense will be awful with Skating Arian and no reps for André. Problem can't be solved I want both, sell team an relocate.
Actually, I'd swing the fences for a QB like Bridgewater, depending on the coaching staff. Even if he fails, you need to take some risk on the QB at this point. If we don't get a QB we'll be terrible either way for years to come. Clowney and Watt would be a thing of beauty, but face it, we all want to see it but we know it's a huge luxury. Our defence is actually way better than most of you guys think it is. Then in the next rounds you solidify your offensive line and add depth to your D, and you find someone that can protect Teddy. In the offseason, you add a good veteran kicker and you cut the Fat Boy. Hire a great special teams coach (McNair needs to pay up). Seriously, NFL fans have underestimated the impact of special teams for way too long IMO. Keep Wade on as DC, hire someone that is not Lovie Smith or Shanahan. Someone like Shaw or maybe Wiz. My dream would be Cowher but that is what it is, a dream. If we can do that, and if Bridgewater can perform (which is obviously a gamble at this point, but a gamble you need to take to become relevant again) then we have a shot at bouncing right back to 2011. Either way, I want someone that will inspire me/others and this football team like JJ Watt has. I don't know much about Clowney because I've never met him, but from what I've read he is not the guy that will be do. Bridewater however has the heart of a lion, played through injuries (with a fractured wrist and swollen ankle) to carry his team to a BCS Bowl game. Provided for his family in HS. He might not have the swagger of Clowney or the Twitter followers of Manziel, but he is a pro and is lightyears ahead of both of these in terms of maturity. I have more faith in him being inspired by Watt to work on his game than Clowney.
Clowney is not a fit next to Watt, J.J. needs someone who will go hard on every down just like him, not someone who picks and chooses when he wants to play. Ive seen Clowney before his name is Mario Williams, has all the talent but doesnt have the motor! If we pick at #1 it has to be a QB that we are confident in, if we are not sold on any QBs you try your hardest to trade down for multiple picks. So you can still get a first round QB and also fill other needs. When you run an NFL team you only have so many resources and with Watts upcoming contract (potentially the biggest ever for a defensive player, in the $100 million range) we would be tying to many resources to the defensive line by drafting Clowney (who imo is far from a cant miss prospect) Im not sure who this QB is, Im not sold on Bridgewater, but someone usually shoots up the board after the bowl games and pre draft workouts.
Part of that reason is because Tressman's earning his reputation as a QB whisperer by getting solid production out of J.McCown. His system doesn't need the arm power of a Cutler, and they did a good job finding complementary threats in Jeffery and Bennett.
Said this before, but if you're getting Mario Williams again, locked into a rookie contract, and that's the worst case scenario - then ****. You might have to take Clowney. Especially if Bridgewater's upside grades out to be middle-of-the-road. If Bridgewater is perceived to have the same ability as Stafford, you take Bridgewater. That's about the cutoff. Anything less, give me Mario Williams on the cheap next to Watt. With that said, Clowney is almost certainly better. Williams was not a sure thing coming out.
Clowney would be the 3rd pass rushing specialist we've drafted in the 1st round since 2006 and the 2nd to be drafted #1 overall. We still have no pass rush except for Watt. Time to take a chance on a franchise QB.* *My opinion will probably change later on today, as usual
Bridgewater grades out very well. He ran a pro style look at Louisville with little talent and took the team to a 11-1 record. He is the pick at number one. It will be telling with what we do with Schaub.
Well, to be fair, their failure with doing just that (Carr in 2002) likely influenced the string of picks to follow... (building up the lines before going after the skill positions). If Teddy passes all the necessary requirements when they analyze him at the combine, you take him... if there is any doubt, I wouldn't reach just because they've failed with other previous picks. They need help everywhere.
