Let's say the Sixers trade a pick and Young for Asik. They would have room to sign 1 max player and another player ~$12 million in FA. This could be their team: MCW Stephenson/Young Turner/Sefolosha Monroe/Julius Randle Asik/Hawes Or they could save for the 2015 NBA free agency. I bet we would see the weirdest protection on the pick too. The Rockets get the higher of the two picks, unless the higher pick is top 5, however they get it if it is 3rd or lower and the other pick is below 7th unless the lower pick is 10th or lower and the rockets pick is higher than 26th than the better pick becomes unprotected and the Sixers receive the Rockets pick. LOL Yeah, that was on my mind the entire time I wrote that.
highly doubt we can grab turner...i wouldnt mind young but he is very similar to jones..then again i wouldnt mind having jones come off the bench. hawes would likely be a rental because some team will overpay for him. i'd be content with the hornets draft pick and a solid bench guy for asik.
The homerism in this thread sometimes...lol. 76ers pick and Asik should not even be in the same sentence haha.
Young makes $9.7m in 2015-16 at his option. I don't think that looks too appealing. Maybe if it was the key to a significant draft pick, but Sixers are in a mode where they really want those. I don't see a lot of viability there. I don't think they'd give up Turner for Asik. He's their first option on offense, and Asik doesn't give them much of anything offensively. Maybe Hawes and a pick -- Asik would displace Hawes in the lineup anyway and he'd leave the Sixers in the offseason, so they might consider his loss as not a loss at all. So, they might see upgrading center as worth a good draft pick. Meanwhile, we're covered on backup center for the rest of the season, and might be able to run Hawes and Howard at the same time even. And we'd get something in the draft pick. Still, it doesn't seem ideal.
Hawes is the prototype player we need. A big who can stretch the floor, outstanding passer out of the low block and solid rebounder who is also good outlet passer to start the transition offense. You can easily play him as the backup 4 and 5 and still allow Joes to continue his rapid progress.
I think Morey would hold out for Hawes and Thaddeus. You'd probably lose Hawes in the offseason, but I think he's a great one year rental at backup C. I believe Asik, D-Mo, Brewer, G.Smith for Hawes, Young would work (have to do it on or after Dec. 15). I'd probably throw in a lottery protected first round pick, too. But Hinkie may prefer the NYK 2nd rounder over our first rounder. I just love the idea of Young on this team. Versatile defender who can knock down the three. He's toward the top of the league in defensive rating. He can guard guys like Durant and Lebron as well as anyone and i think that is where his value is. We'd basically have 8 starting caliber players that all fit within the system, with Lin, Young, and Hawes coming off the bench. Garcia or Casspi get the spare minutes to round out the rotation.
You guys are overestimating the value of Asik. While I would love TY, the sixers just wouldnt go for it. I think our best bet this year is to get a few picks for Asik considering the talent coming out of the draft next year.
Asik is an automatic double -double player if given minutes. His standing or positional post defense maybe the best in the entire league. He defends the backdown moves better down any big in the game. He dosent get bullied in the low block and is an elite rebounder. The guy changes the whole dynamic of you're teams low post interior defense for the better. His value far exceeds the likes of Young and most sane GM's and most importantly Morey knows this.
EXACTLY!!!! Too many people are too fixed on him taking TJ place and that's not the point... The point to have guy who can strength the bench and who's very versatile... GREAT POINTS!!!!! T_Man
I really like hawes and youre correct if morey is in win now mode he is going to take this trade if it is on the table. This makes us more contenders than we are currently, my only concern is youngs contract with the player option in 2015-2016 that im concerned about.
I know the conventional wisdom is you don't trade big for small, but I'm starting to think it's not going to be a power forward that Maory is going to land. With T-Jones emerging we in far greater need of a long defensive wing than another power forward.
He costs more than Asik, his contract isn't exactly cap friendly at 8M a year, exact price as Asik. 8M for a solid C is a bargain, for an undersized PF though who isn't elite offensively or defensively? I said it in the other thread, Young is not the difference between contention and being a scrub team. Asik is worth more than young to the Rox because he can replace DH when he gets injured, needs rest or is sucking on the court. What need does Young fill exactly? Is the ability to backup Tjone or Parsons that important when we have DMo, Greg Smith, Casspi and Garcia all willing to get minutes on the court? It's just not cost efficient or good value to replace a bargain asset with an overpriced one, esp. one that doesn't fill a particular need. I'd rather have Hawes+a pick...hell, I'd rather have Hawes period than Young.
The 76ers have so many options. They have $10,000,000 in cap space. Morey might just send Asik and aim for that New Orleans or Philly 2014 first rounder (whichever is worse), with stipulations / restrictions (if it's top 6, we get Philly's 2015; if it's between #7 and #12, we have to add the Knicks' 2014 second rounder; otherwise, no problema). Or we just add Dmo (hey, McHale won't play him, anyway) and remove the NY second rounder thing. Then Philly can deal Hawes to a team (unfortunately, probably in the WC) and acquire a 2014 late first rounder in the process. Hell, if Philly wanted, they could even deal Nerlens Noel now or later for some other 2014 pick, if they wanted to keep Asik long-term as the starting center. And we could use our TE and a crappy 2nd rounder to bring in Da Chuck Wagon from Toronto to play as our backup center/pf. They're looking for cap space, right?
Just get an unprotected first in 2014, as high as possible. All I really want out of Asik, otherwise just keep him.
If toronto is serious about getting. Rid of Derozan, he can play 20 minutes a game for us filling in for james and chandler. Holy shhhh that would be great (Note that Derozan has really long arms.and is a great defender) Rotation would be Beverely/Lin Harden/Derozan Parsons/Derozan/Casspi Jones/Parsons/Casspi Howard/Jones/Dmo In crunch time we can potentially have: Harden/DeRozan/Parsons/Jones/Howard Or Beverely/Harden/DeRozan/Parsons/Howard I love this trade but would the raptord still do it after the Gay trade
I guess you dont watch a ton of Toronto basketball or just love barbershop type of ballers. DeRozen is essentially Rudy Gay lite who would take the ball out of the hands of the Rockets more efficient better all around basketball players (Harden, Lin, Parsons), and his contract is pretty atrocious. If the Rocket want to be players in the 2015 free agency (which has been rumored from sources here), DeRozen kills that. There is an opportunity though for the Rockets to bring in a guy with his size, and athleticism to play the 3 and slide Parsons over to the 4 spot (which is something I see in the future), but the problem is I dont see DeRozen as having it between the ears to be that type of defensive all around team player who can score off the ball efficiently, and his contract pretty much kills any remaining confidence I might have. DeRozen is the perfect player for a team like Memphis, Chicago, Atlanta, etc. that need someone on the perimeter that can create their own shot even if not at the an extremely efficient rate just cause their perimeter players can't take pressure off of their bigs.
Philadephia has done everything in their power to ensure that their picks are going to be as high as possible. There is no way they are giving up a 1st rounder unless it's for a bona fide star, which Asik is not.
How about Asik for Jason Thompson of the Kings. Dude has a consistent 2 like LaMarcus Adridge. Kings are looking to remove him.
