Great QBs make coaches look good. Warner was a great QB despite people always trying to get rid of him. Horton ran the D so maybe they should hire horton instead of whisenhunt.
You realize the head coach typically shouldnt be the one to draft a QB? There is a role for that on the team already. You cant fault Ken for the Cardinals lack of player management. Just look at the Chargers...Rivers has completed pulled a 180.
Look at the chargers all you want. Remember, He isn't the HC but the OC. He isn't the only person responsible for the turn around and you really don't know how much of it is on him. Like I've repeated, He does well with established QBs. Our biggest weakness is NOT having an established QB. He came in with Glass Matt, but he wasn't ever able to repair the situation once Warner retired due to injuries. And like I've previously stated his track record is mediocre to bad when it comes to player development. And wh knows what draft control he had in Arizona, All I know is HC's are always apart of the process and if you can't collectively make the right choices over the course of years to address your needs all parties are at fault, including the HC. I can write it in stone if you want, If they hire Ken this team will be going nowhere.
And you draft the QB that fits your offensive scheme, you would then need a ton of input from your coach to determine who the best possible QB would be. It goes hand in hand no matter if the GM makes the final choice or not, He wouldn't be able without his coaches input. It's pretty easy to understand how they are hand in hand.
Most people in San Diego attribute Rivers and the SD's offense resurgence to Mike McCoy, not Whisenhunt.
Exactly what I hear as well. Ken is just getting a high approval rating because of the success of the team around him. And let's be honest, they aren't that great either. With as well as Rivers' has been playing they still don't look like much. Hell, Our D all but shut them out in the 2nd half. Which has been our weakness all season.
I can see now we are going to be right back where we are now in a year and a half. They're already starting off on the wrong foot.
How do you explain Rivers' resurgence then? How do you explain Warner playing so poorly for Tom Coughlin? The "QBs make coaches look good" argument will only get you so far before the logic collapses in on itself. Thought this link was interesting: McCoy not surprised if Whiz pursued

He may have been the OC of the Steelers, but by no means was he the sole reason they were so good. That Defense was why they won that championship. Big Ben was less than 50% on his completions and average 6.9 ypa. He only had a 158 yards versus the 181 rushing on 33 attempts. They SHUT DOWN the Seahawks with only allowing a field goal and a touchdown, and that was because of their epic defense. While steady on offense at times, the defense is why they were so good. Ask anyone who followed that season and they will reiterate my statements. It is 100% a completely different league now. If you want to give credit for that season's success, it is completely on Cower and and LeBeau steering that ship. Ben didn't become Ben until Bruce Arians took over as the OC in 2007.
I'm aware that defense was good. The running game was also godly. However, all of this flies directly in the face of your assertion that Whisenhunt's offenses are only good with "established" QBs. Roffleberger was a smaller part of that team's success, but he played *quite* well for such a noob. You don't go 31-7 over two years without decent QB play. Whisenhunt is no dummy and can obviously design offenses and call plays around his personnel. His failure in Arizona is largely attributed to Warner's retirement and the GM letting the OL go to absolute hell in a handbag. There's a reason he's already back on the HC radar. He deserves an interview.
While I respect Whisenhunt, I think the coaching market is simply too good right now to hire him. Between David Shaw, Bill O'Brien, Gruden, Cowher, Smith and many others, there's no reason to take a risk with Whisenhunt.
He's a good coordinator... but he's primarily implemented McCoy's offense in SD, not his own. Now, he'll probably take some bits and pieces along the way and incorporate it into his own philosophy, but San Diego is McCoy's team. Partly different from how Kubiak based his entire philosophy on Shanahan's system, and then augmented it with his own wrinkles... but really not all that different. Again, I favor a neutral-position head coach... somebody that's not just an offensive or just a defensive guy. Somebody that can influence both sides of the ball equally, and simply lead (i.e. - a Tomlin, John Harbaugh type).
