What evidence do you have that suggest this? If you watch most of Philly's games, then I would understand this assessment, but his advanced stats are off the charts. All you have to do is look at my first post to see how he stacks up against Bruce Bowen, Josh Smith, and Shane Battier.

I will say that stats don't mean "too" much when it can't pass the eye test. However, Thad Young passes the eye test and then some.

I'll bite. OP, as much as I applaud you for your enthusiasm for Thad Young, manipulating stats to prove your point isn't the best way to go about it. So what evidence do we have? Let's see what you said about his defense:

"Thad Young has had a DRtg (the lower the better) of 100 and 103 the past 2 years. Josh Smith has a career average of 103, Shane Battier has an avg of 105, and Bruce Bowen's average is 102. As you can see, 101.5 average in the past 2 years is ELITE level defense."

Using Young's most recent two years, which happen to be his best two across six seasons (not counting this one), is already slightly misleading. Also, so far this season, he's been a much worse 107 DRating. You could argue that the most recent two prior seasons are the best indicator of where he is at now, and that this season is a small sample size, and you would have a good point except...

You compare his cherry-picked DRating years to the AVERAGES of Josh Smith and Shane Battier...the averages they have had across a whole career, where, like Young (and most young nba players), their defensive prowess in their earlier years were not nearly where they are at now. People like Smith's elite defense TODAY, not during his rookie season.

If you looked at Thad Young's CAREER DRating, it is 106, while JSmoove's is 103. Not even close. If you look at JSmoove's most recent two prior seasons, he has had DRatings of 96! and 101. This season he is 101 again, and he has had many more seasons than Thad of 101 DRatings.

If we turn to RAPM, the Defense per 100 numbers for Thad Young last season were 1.7. Not bad. But compared to JSmith's 3.3? More like half the value.

Comparing Young's stats to Shane Battier's CAREER averages makes no sense either as it is obvious that Battier is well out of his prime now and does not have the same defensive abilities as he once had.

So to use stats selectively to say Thad Young has quote, "ELITE level defense", is quite unfair and rather misleading. That Young's a pretty decent defender and above average, but not ELITE like say, Josh Smith. Not yet at least.

You just hurt and dilute your own argument, which has valid points about his defense, when you misuse stats like this (and get caught of course).

Morey won't be trading Asik for Young straight up...come on people. If he was going for Thad, you can bet the 76ers would have to include their lotto pick.

Noel would be playing the 4? He would get roasted being a 5 in this league.

I don't think he is that much better than T. Jones, I think we need Evan Turner. We need someone to guard ones and twos. People forget, when we played the Clippers JJ Reddick killed us. We didn't have anybody to guard him, for that matter so did Jamal Crawford.

If the playoffs were held today, we would get killed on the wings. The only true defensive guard we have is Beverly and Garcia, depending on the matchup

i havent seen him this year but last year i saw about ten 76ers game and he is an explosive scorer, that's about it. he is like the aaron brooks of the sf/pf position. if the rockets go out and grab a more defensive oriented sf/pf to make up for parson's lack of defense, that would be way more suitable.

i dont see scoring as any issue for the rockets

Talking about "cherry picking" stats. How come you didn't include any of Shane Battier's or Bruce Bowen's stats? Thad Young has already posted 1 season of 100 and 1 season of 103. Shane Battier has NEVER posted a year under 102. Bruce Bowen out of all people have only posted 1, yes 1 season of less than 100 DRtg, with many seasons of 102, 104, etc.

Josh Smith is a once in a generation type of defensive talent at the SF/PF spot. Who averages 3 blks/2 stls per game consistently? It just doesn't really happen that much. There are a few elite defenders in the league. Thad Young has potential to be an elite defender, and by stats alone the past 2 years, he is IMO.

Thaddeus Young is just entering his prime, so I don't think it's fair to use his career average at this point.

It's not about "cherry picking" stats. I just thought that it was fair to use players who were already in their prime or have already had a career.

Asik + a low first round pick (noticed he said conditional) is worth it. I'd trade the equivalent of this to get Thad Young. This was suggested in a prior post.

Many people overrate our players and undervalue others. We are NOT negotiating from a position of strength. Normally, Asik's value for Thad Young is enough, but people know we have to trade Asik.

We are going for the CHAMPIONSHIP. Sometimes we'll have to overpay. The window is very small, so you have to go for it. Remember, we still have 3-4 2nd rounders on top of ours, all of our first rounders, and a few Euro first round level talent. We can over-pay. Morey is great at finding value.

Over-paying is a contradiction to "finding value".

Do you realize how many players have Young's skill-set compared to Asik's?

Young is barely an upgrade over Jones. And considering the $$$ difference, id rather have Jones.

I don't see a player like Young making us any closer to winning a championship.

If Young costs us Asik and a 1st, then id rather have 50% effort and 15 minutes of play from Asik.

This post would make sense...if it werent about Thad Young. Young isnt the difference between contention and non contention he's solid but not anywhere close to all star level. And you think Asik +pick is worth getting him? I'm not even sure he's better than Tjones!

Centers are a much more valuable commodity than tweener forwards. Not in a million, billion, gazillion years do we include a first round pick with Asik for Young. That's not serious.

We are NOT replacing Terrence Jones. We're adding Thad Young in addition to the core that we already have in place. Terrence Jones and Thad Young are two different players. We may differ on how we perceive Young, but I do think that he is a Chandler Parsons type of player. Young is a 2 way player that gives you flexibility at the SG, SF, or PF, even though he is best suited for SF/PF. I don't think we need an all-star type talent and think that we need a Chandler Parsons type 2 way player.

First of all, when you're contending for a championship, you may have to over-pay. Morey already stated this. He's not ALL about finding value. If he deems a player worthy, he'll over-pay. He can find value with other players.

Secondly, name me a few players that can score 15/7/1.5 stls with 39% 3 point shooting, who is a plus perimeter defender, can guard multiple positions, and does not need the ball.

Finally, if you do find some, then let me know who out of that group is available for trade or can be had for about $9 million per year.
