Good. I think Ken got a raw deal in AZ and he has revitalized the SD offense. If he could coax Horton to Houston, all the better.
I don't mind it, but I'd be interested to know who is tagged as DC if Wade Phillips walks. Whisenhunt is good overall, but he can't brag about his prowess in evaluating/developing QBs after the disaster in Arizona when Leinart was picked to be the guy. Whatever we do, I wouldn't mind if the front office built a top shelf staff and got far away from the biggest mistake of Kubiak's era: letting him hand pick all of his (unqualified/prepared) buddies.
The chargers such they are a soft team period. I want a hard nose coach that players respect and would run through fire for him.
Not really interested. Very overrated for me. Did NOTHING in az after Warner retired. Seems too stubborn and inflexible to me
Who? Be specific because the available coaches that meet McNairs criteria, NFL and Head coaching experience are very limited. Bill Belichick, Andy Reid, Pete Carroll or none of the Harbaughs are walking through that door. Second tier coaches like Rex Ryan and Mike Shanahan might become available but is that what you want. Maybe you think Gruden will be better but he will cost a fortune and he hasn't coached in forever. Same with Cowher. I don't beleive McNair is being completely honest. Because if he was I think he would add and can't cost more than 5 mil a year in his criteria. Of the coaches available Whisenhunt is the best available. He has super bowl experience and has turned around a pathetic Chargers offense into one of the best in the league. If not him than who?
I really like David Shaw. He's continued the winning culture in Stanford after Harbaugh left, and it definitely seems like he knows how to work with young quarterbacks and develop a well-oiled offense.
He was only good with already established QBs. He was never able to develop talent at any position. It would be a terrible hire for the Texans.
The Chargers were soft under Norv Turner. Whisenhunt hasn't even been there long enough to put his stamp on the team. From what I understand, he was very well-respected in Arizona. It was his quarterback situation that got him ousted.
Another point why I'm against him as our HC is that our two biggest weaknesses were his achiles heal as far as drafting and development. He can coach up old vets but can't develop young talent at the QB position and he has no idea what to do about O-lines. Why buy into a guy that would only exacerbate our currentissues.
Whisenhunt career record: 49-53 (.480) Kubiak career record: 63–66 (.488) Seems were going in the wrong direction
Show me Ken Whisenhunt's career record with a competent QB and without one. The man can flat out run an offense. He has completely resurrected Philip Rivers' career. If he gets a QB with two brain cells to rub together, this offense will explode like a super nova. This defense is talented and the OL is lightyears better than what he had after the Warner era. Like I said, if he can convince Ray Horton to come here (I'm sure Uncle Bob would give him a raise), then we have to entertain the idea.
Some good points here; however he just reminds me too much of Gary. In Wade we already have a soft nice guy....we need a hard ass to be head coach.
It's gonna be a tough catch ; but I really believe we can get Cowher to sit down with us at least and that's a start. The offensive coordinator for the Saints would be a great interview as well. This team desperately needs a hard ass.
Like I stated earlier, He has only ever been good with an already established QB. We have a bunch of backups. When given the opportunity to draft a young QB he has continously failed to acquire talent or develop what talent was there. He got lucky with a Warner playing at hall of fame levels those years. Warner fell into there laps. What happen once Kurt was gone? Jack ****. He couldn't even play an o-line on the field to block a JV defense. If you bring him in you're looking at trying to get Cutler in the off season. I have no trust in Ken to draft the correct talent and develop it beyond that. He's a good coordinator but he seriously lacks (like Kubiak) the ability to do it all as a HC. Install a system with a vet QB is one thing. Overhauling an entire offense and rebuilding it is another. His win loss with Warner : 27-21 Regular Season 4-2 Post Season Reached the championship once and collapsed in the 2nd half. That's with a future hall of famer playing some of his best in his entire career. With the talents of Boldin and Fitzgerald. Not exactly lightning in a bottle. 2007 8-8 2008 9-7 2009 10-6 2010 5-11 2011 8-8 2012 5-11 If you're looking for more of the same, by all means. If you actually want to win, Look elsewhere.
Ugh. OMR's post sounds like the most defeatist thing ever. "You think we can get a better coach? Well shut up because we can't! It's a coaching graveyard out there and Bob McNair is gonna turn into Jim Crane when it comes to paying a new coach's salary!" Please give us more hope than that.
