I don't see how Young fits this team any better than any of our other starters. Don't get me wrong, he is a good player, but he isn't an upgrade at the positions he would play. Unless he is coming with a couple of picks, it doesn't sound like much. IMO, the goal of this trade should be to replace what we will be losing(back-up center) and try to get picks as well. That's it.
I don't really understand the need for Asik in Philly or Milwaukee. Philly is tanking or trying at least this season, and they have Noel coming in next season. Bucks have Sanders and Henson has been developing very well.
Picks yeah.... Backup center is tricky I don't think we should entertain the idea of getting a high profile guy. We should get a undervalued guy, give Ohlbrecht another chance or sign some guy from Europe (like Patrick Beverley) This part is less tricky.
Even if Philly is not interested, I wonder if Hinkie is giving out the impression that he is interested in Asik, and even has a trade in the works, in order to help his pal Morey out-- and more importantly to maintain good relations with Houston in case they need to make a deal with Houston later.
I think Hinkie might also be keeping his own best interests in mind. The future of the franchise really is in the hands of MKG, Nerlens Noel, and whoever they draft this Summer. Thad Young long term will most likely stand in the way of Noel's development, and he has a very un-hinkielike contract that he would probably prefer to move anyways to create future flexibility in these rebuilding years. Bringing in Asik on a relatively short term contract helps them gain some flexibility and also helps the first year or year 1/2 of Noels NBA career by having a 7 foot defensive beast to help with the dirty work, and go against daily in practice. Also if they hit the Jackpot this Summer in the draft, MKG continues to impress, and Noel turns out to be special as well, Asik could be that missing piece that helps them compete pretty much overnight. It would be like the first few years of the OKC Thunder kid squad having the Celtics version of Kendrick Perkins on the team before he completely sucked.... only 5X better. Hinkie would do well to straight up trade Young for Asik. Morey on the other hand... not so sure. They need to make sure that Young's contract will be movable at any point if they need to do so in the future. That contract could really hurt them in future deals they need to make... which is why Hinkie would probably really like to move him in the first place.
People who want Rondo will be disappointed I think. The celtics are very smart and well ran. This draft might have 3+ superstars in it and they are in a great spot to tank and land one of them. If they get Lin + Asik they become the 3rd seed in the east and will be picking in the late 20s. If the east were stronger that would look promising. Also Rondo didn't get an offseason due to injury this year and the chemistry would take a long time as he got reacclimated to the game. I think it would hurt our chances at contending this year.
Not sure why everyone is talking about Rondo, ain't nothing but a pipe dream. Rondo would be incredible on this team. Someone like The-hideous-Young would be more realistic, unfortunately.
Why would Philly want Asik if A) They're tanking, and Asik will just result in them getting a worse draft pick in a great upcoming draft. B) They have Noel, who is likely taking a year off, who will have a fresh start next season. I'm also not very high on Thad Young. Not a huge improvement over T Jones...in my opinion.
I'm hoping Morey throws some sort of curve ball at us, i mean, i want whatever is best for the team, but I'm not impressed with the names being thrown around. A lottery pick is good for a trade chip but we are in win now mode and just thinking about waiting for a younger guy to develop gets me impatient.
Marc Stein is full of sh**. He legit has no sources on the Asik front. Milwauke?? this guy is a MAVs homer. He can go kill himself. and the whole Portland is enjoying Robin lopez's production so they arent interested in an asik swat. This guy is on crack.
I'm guessing Morey has several irons in the fire for backup C, and will not allow that roster need to prevent him from getting the best value possible for Asik.
I don't think it will happen like that. Morey is not after Milsap right now. He wants a first round pick and something not useful, because the team does not need anything at the moment. Then he goes and trades that not useful at the deadline for whatever the team needs for the playoffs.
The perfect team for asik is the Thunder who need a defensive center which can put them over the top as they dont need his scoring just d and rebounding. Perrkins is the worst Center in the nba an Adams is still a rookie trade asik for Adams
