I've been critical of the Astros other mediocre acquisitions like Fowler and Feldman, but I can get on board with them bringing back Qualls. Always liked him.
One more scrub signing left to raise the payroll by $30 million! LOL Who will the lucky scrub be? $10 mil for Feldman $7 mil for Fowler $3 mil for Qualls $-.- mil for ?
how are people b****ing about this signing? we needed to improve the bullpen. Everyone knew it. Only spent 3 mil/yr on a guy who had a 2.6 ERA last year and has been a good RP for a long time? He had an ugly 2012, but before and after has been good. On top of that, Qualls was always one of my favorites
I am suprised he couldn't get more. He is actually a decent pitcher, and even bad pitchers get 10mil+.
None of these moves would hamper the long term future of the club. The Astros have a lot of minor league prospects. Not all will make it. It is good to have developed major league players keep up the fort walls while the prospects are allowed to develop. Not blown away by any of the moves. But this club needs to see what it has with the prospects talent already on board. I would be upset if they signed a first baseman without giving Singleton his chance. The plethora of youth on the team created a void of veteran leadership. Barnes tried to be the leader, but he himself was a newbie to the majors.
Definitely agree these moves don't hurt future. I slightly liked the Fowler deal. Feldman was about value. Qualls is a slight dislike.
They're complaining because Qualls doesn't have a sub .500 record or ERA in excess of 4.00. If only he sucked a little more or was signed for more money, these fans would be singing the praises of this deal. This Astros board has turned into backwards world, where horrible signings are praised and good ones are questioned.
really have no problem with any of our acquisitions thus far. qualls had a great year last year after refining his mechanics. plus, he'll be a great mentor for our young pitchers. cosart already tweeted how excited he is to play with qualls. are we going to compete next year? not for the division. but everything is falling in place. this team will 100% be competitive next year. just need one or two more signings. finally excited for the stros again
