Yeah but sometimes it takes a shakeup to rally players and its not inconceiveable that they play well because they cant play any worse. Im really starting to worry Wade may get the job.

How about David Shaw? He has some NFL experience.

Hopefully this is only the beginning of a thorough housecleaning of the organization. Every assistant coach, scout, S&C personnel, the works. Most importantly, the GM needs to be replaced.

I don't get the hate on Lovie Smith. Yeah, sure he isn't that good at offense and has struggle to find a good offensive coordinator in Chicago and WAS the reason he was let go. But the guy is a good coach, a player's coach. We need that type of coach on this team to build leaders on the team. He took the Bears to the Superbowl and build one of the best defenses in the league. How is that bad or soft? He is a huge upgrade over Kubiak and the best choice out there. He just needs to get better on offense and hire a good offensive coordinator.

In theory, I don't mind hiring a guy like Cowher or Gruden, but at the same time, they've been removed from the game for some time now. It's only natural to lose that edge and fire once you've been in a cushy TV job for a while. I can't think of any examples of someone leaving the game for an analyst's gig, and then coming back and being successful. I'd much rather have someone who is young, dynamic, and willing to bring new ideas and new blood into the organization. The guy who keeps popping into my head is Sean McDermott, defensive coordinator for the Panthers. He was fired from Philly a couple of seasons ago, but that was the year that Philly was a dumpster fire, and Jim Johnson (his mentor) passed away. Since then, he's done a phenomenal job rebuilding the Carolina defense. Somebody like him or David Shaw would be my first choices.

However, I know how the Texans operate, and I know they probably won't take a risky route with this decision. They'd probably rather retain Wade Phillips than go with someone new and young. I have no faith that McNair & McNair will be able to identify what direction the organization really needs to go in.

To those wanting Lovie, I like Lovie and he is a Texan more the better but Bob just fired a players coach(nice guy). Its time for a no nonsense drill sergeant hard ass coach to get these boys heads out their tails.

John Clayton on SC mentioned Jon Gruden, Mike Shanny from Washington, and Tom Cable from Seattle
