Lovie just seems like a strong fit based on what McNair said today. I believe he runs a 4-3, but we have the defensive talent to turn the defense around pretty quickly, obviously with some talent upgrades needed in the secondary. Then you try to win defensively while you let a young QB (Keenum or otherwise) and offense grow.
I like Tom Clements the offensive coordinator from Green Bay. He would be a good head coach. But the guy I want as the Texans Head coach will be Lovie Smith Who I think it will be? Wade Phillips.
Terrible coach if you are an offensive player. Consistently hired poor offensive coordinators. Very stubborn and arrogant. Makes many excuses. Very good defensive head coach. Players love him.
You also need LB's with more ability than simply "sack the QB" in the 4-3 (having said that, the current LB isn't even doing well with that responsibility). Mercilus and Reed cannot play 4-3 DE's. The biggest problems on this defense are the LB's, followed by the secondary. You get more production up front from the LB's, you rely less on your inexperienced secondary to make plays. Even if you do have a shut-down secondary, no one-on-one corner-backs can account for this much lack of talent amongst the front 7 (especially with any contact being flagged for a penalty in today's NFL).
Enjoy a piss poor offense, an under utilization of Hopkins, Dre, Foster, Daniels and a defense that focuses on limiting the other teams offense to less than 20 pts, while priding itself on takeaways. Can't win if you can't score. Had Lovie here in Chicago for damn near a decade. After 06 (which, lets be honest, Hester had a whole HELL of a lot to do with when it came to field position, playmaking, an almost an extra TD a game) Lovie fell wayyyyy off. Overrated. Shouldn't be more than a defensive coordinator. Lovie is the defensive version of Kubiak. No more coordinators who happen to become a head coach and find success, but still only know how to coach up their side of the ball (and don't have much to do with what the other side does). Get a mostly position-neutral head coach. A Tomlin/John Harbaugh/Pagano type.

Mercilus and Reed would be goners if we switch to 4-3. IMO it's much easier to find 4-3 OLBs than quality 3-4 OLBs. You'd have to draft and sign several new OLBs.
Joe Marciano should be promoted to HC for remainder of the season to secure the top pick. Can't believe they fired Kubes with such an epic losing streak intact. If they win another game I blame Bob McNair.
Schaub almost led a comeback last night. Bob seemed pretty intent on Case remaining the starter. Firing Kubes keeps Schaub from playing, potentially beating Tennessee like he did in game 2.
I don't get the love for Lovie. That's the guy you want grooming your QB for the next 10 years? And Cower...I know everyone here loves him because he makes mean faces on the sideline, but he's quickly becoming a fossil if he isn't already. The NFL has changed a lot since his coaching days. The 2 OC's from both Seattle and New Orleans are intriguing to me.
I was watching the game last night at work, talking to my coworker about the Texans and what they need to do. I said heads needed to roll, one of which would probably be Kub. Looks like I was right. Very overdue, IMO.
