If this is true I wonder if Morey has had conversations with Boston or NY and was told get us a lotto pick in this draft and Rondo/Melo is yours. Doesn't make a lot of sense otherwise.
It is interesting that the Rockets are insistent on a lottery pick. As a win now team and obvious plans to have cap space for 2015, a lottery pick isn't really all that useful to the Rockets in the "Dwight championship" window. There must be another big name out there whose team is holding out for a lottery pick which we are trying to get our hands on. Melo Rondo Love come to mind.
Getting a lotto pick in what looks to be a great deep draft at the top doesn"t make sense? If we get an uprotected lottory pick, I hope we keep it. There are some potential studs in this draft, not just Wiggins.
Right but I thought the hawks had the rights to swap picks with the nets from the Joe Johnson trade, that pick is looking kinda sexy.
Considering how Morey has had only a few weeks to try to make this work (it took him like 5 months of negotiating to wrestle Harden away from OKC, and even longer with Dwight), we may not get everything that we would like. Still, we should get something in exchange for Omer, and which is better than nothing.
That's the part that's hard to tell. Atlanta is 10-10 and is 3rd in the east. However, (presumably) Horford believes he is playing out of place, and they are a terrible rebounding team. Asik let's Horford slide over and they instantly move into the top half of rebounding teams in the league. Then you still have the 2014 and/or 2015 picks (which they can swap with the Nets) to get another potential star player.
Good thoughts their, didn't think of hone 2 month rule, perhaps that's why morey wants a pick if he can't strike a deal by the 19th as they can be flipped straight away
Could be, but sometimes Morey does stuff like this without knowing the next move. Morey didn't know that Lowry for the Toronto 1st would lead to Harden, but he did know the pick had value around the league.
Definitely seems like the plan is to trade asik for a lottery pick (or 2) to then flip for another star whether that be rondo or someone else. I'm Still not sold on rondo next to harden plus we have Bev and Lin. Melo seems far fetched and there wouldn't be enough shots to go around. Aldridge was believable before the season but with how Portland is playing, no way they give him up. Maybe if they hit a rough patch, it could happen but unlikely. Time to just sit back and watch morey work his magic.
I'm guessing if a trade is not made prior to the 19th then all of the trade noise involviing Asik will die down again until the trade deadline. I wonder if DM has 100 different trade scenarios on the table?
It it'll be a back of the lottery pick. Utah for example would NEVER trade their pick this year. Yeah things change but any team with a reasonable chance at a top 5 pick wouldn't trade it.
Lottery picks are just much more liquid trade assets than players. Morey has said that before. It just buys more time and flexibility to make a deal for a guy he really wants.
yeah I mean who knows, maybe they've wanted this type of deal all along and can't wait to slide Horford over to the 4. My guess is that since they've had Horford for who knows how many years, and they still haven't really made that big of an effort to play him at the 4 yet (other than the period when Josh Smith played the 3 to mixed reviews) makes me think that its more of a priority for Horford than it is for the Hawks. They'd probably rather upgrade the wing spots over the 5 spot right this second IMO. That city is just waiting for the next Dominique to come around, and is really squandering Horford's best years by playing him out of position.
