Finally some sanity. IMO, he wouldn't be worth 10 yrs / 100 mill + 1% LHN. No way he could live up to the expectations that would come with that. Would rather have Malzahn build a program from scratch.
10 yrs / 100 mill + 1% LHN is just insane, even for Saban. I'd prefer we go after Gus Malzahn anyway. But I suspect Auburn is quietly working on a contract extension proposal for him.
i've heard from a very well connected SEC alum that all of his big time UT buddies are saying the same thing - done deal, has been for at a little while. he was skeptical regardless but not the Texas boosters. fwiw.

I don't want to give the boosters name but if you need it to confirm how involved he is at Texas then I will provided it as long as you don't use it publicly. My other buddy works for a news station somewhere in the state of Texas( I will not provide his name) but he spoke with a very influential booster from a different school in Texas. This booster told him about some other coaching deals (briles, sumlin, etc) about a month before the story broke so he is beginning to listen to the rumors that this booster tells him. The booster is involved in Texas politics as well so he has a good hear for what is going on at the major schools in Texas. He told my friend "As much as it saddens me to say this, Saban to Texas has been done for a long time". I know you probably get several rumor emails like this but I thought it is still of some interest to you."
I posted the "pipe dream" and I'm far from a hater. I've read so many articles, tweets, rumors. I'll believe it when I see him at a presser, then I'll eat EVERYONE'S crow, with a large grin.
I kind of hope Saban does go to UT-Austin branch, actually. Believe it or not I kind of liked it better when UT-Austin branch was top dog in the state rather than schools like Baylor and A$M. Plus Saban will keep his players from getting arrested so much, which Mack couldn't reign in.
Let Auburn test drive Malzahn for you first. Get the last bit of Saban's glory years that you can, then back the truck up for Malzahn if he proves to have staying power. He's young, you can afford to wait.
this. i like the thought of malzahn but he doesn't have the track record yet... get 5-7 solid years from saban then take the next established golden child.
