Rockets shoot 33% the first 45 minutes of the game and are without 3 of their 7 best players and LOSE? OMG fire McHale!

Interestingly enough, 1 of those three is a backup center that hardly sees much playing time to significantly impact the game... unlike the two "superstars" of the team who are not among those missing 3.....

    You're right, we're overreacting...

This team would benefit IMMENSLY from JVG.

Yea. The most useless 20-25 minutes a game. Not having anyone behind him last season certainly wasn't detrimental, so why would not having him behind Howard be any different?

Are you arguing that Asik has as much impact on the game as Howard and Harden...? No wonder Morey is asking for two first rounders......

Oh, yes, because when they were all together... everything was peachy.... That pattern didn't reveal itself until three got injured.... Damn McFail, is right...

This. I've seen Pops bench his starters before and close games with the 2nd unit. Sometimes it's a mix of both starters and bench with some starters on the bench. This is where coaching comes in, making the right choices and picking the right players depending on situation and who is the hot hand. McHale has shown he is capable of making good coaching choices during the playoffs against OKC, but its like he completely forgot about all that this season.

No. I'm arguing that a successful basketball team consists of an 8-9 man rotation, and that even Jordan & Scottie would have trouble without players like Rodman, Kukoč, Grant, & Armstrong.

I'm also suggesting that any implication along the lines of saying 2 players should be able to seemlessly do it all themselves, with or without quality players around them, is assinine. That's all.

Screw Pop. He is an ***hole at times. Plus if you do recall he must think he is some sort of a genius that he benched Tim Duncan for the last few plays of game 6 of the Finals and they didn't have anyone available for a rebound and then they give up the Ray Allen three to tie the game.

Sometimes you can outcoach yourself out of a game. And in this case he outcoached himself out of a championship. lol.

The popovich worship here is ridiculous.

Especially when they shoot 33% (Howard) 17% (Harden) respectively... This isn't at all about superstars doing their part, and lacking the support.....

Those aren't season averages. They're from one game. Thanks for confirming your place among the nutjobs who believe good players never have games where their shots don't fall.

I agree McHale could do a better job, but I'm against firing him right now. This would justify Harden's action on court. He would basically become a coach killer.

Harden would become a superdiva, knowing Morey will fire a coach rather than request accountability from him.

Firing McHale is a wrong message right now. It's all on Harden to find out whether he will look in the mirror and say to himself "got to put more effort on court" or continue with his lackadaisical play.

Players-only meeting where Parsons would call him out probably helps too.

You mean the worship of THIS guy?

    Gregg Popovich

    4 NBA championships
    5 NBA finals appearances
    8 Western conference finals appearances
13 appearances in the 2nd round of the play offs
    16 consecutive play off appearances
14 consecutive seasons of 50+ wins
    15/17 seasons with 50+ wins
    3x All Star game coach
    2x Coach of the year
3rd most play off wins in NBA history (108)
3rd highest winning percentage in NBA history (.680)

Rated 8th best Head Coach in NBA history by Rant Sports
Rated 49th best Head Coach of all time in any sport by Sporting News

Of course, you could just take the words of another Head Coach...

    http://blog.mysanantonio.com/spursnation/2013/03/16/popovich-distinct-from-distinguished-list/

Pops called a play in game 6 and it didn't pan out. Even if it was an error (which is easy to say in hindsight because we don't really know what Pops was thinking), I think he's entitled to the odd mistake.

It just reminds us that Pops is actually human and not some freaky basketball Super-Coachbot from the future. (Either that or he purposely blew that play just to make us *think* that he's not a Coachbot... so sneaky, but that would be just like Pops!).

Personally, I'll stick by Pops. You can keep saying that McHale knows better.

Why are you spending so much time to answer a troll post...

I wonder who were the seven coaches that were/are better than Pop? Not saying he is the best all time, but 8th?

    1. Phil Jackson
    2. Red Auerbach
    3. Chuck Daly
    4. Bill Fitch
    5. Pat Riley
    6. Red Holzman
    7. John Kundia
    8. Gregg Popovich
    9. Don Nelson
    10. Lenny Wilkins

List is debatable of course, but it's still one heck of a list. And most folks wouldn't recognize all those coaches, but gotta remember the NBA has been around a LONG time.

"Two steps forward, one step back". That's the best way I can describe McHale's coaching progress.
