The Rockets were a 6th seed during one of those championship years and entering the playoffs as a 6th seed isn't usually considered a great team... Plus I think we got lucky that someone else knocked off the Sonics. So I'm not sure if Houston fans know what a great team looks like... But I am sure Houston fans don't appreciate ish and really don't deserve nice things... I remember trade talk of Dream going on before he won championships and then after we used him up we shipped him off to Canada... But I agree with you... Young teams with young stars usually don't win (championships)... Took Dream years before he was ready...
Go check out the Heat message board or one of their forums and I guarantee a lot of their fans are pissed after the loss to Detroit. I hear ya, LOL I get frustrated after we loses to a terrible team as well but I do however know that these scrub teams are in the NBA, therefore the Any Given Day Rule applies.
The Dream wanted a fat contract even though he wasn't the same player anymore ( hampered with injuries). I wanted him to retire as a Rocket as well but we all know how the business goes. Yes the Sonics were a thorn in our side back then, I was glad them joker got bounced out the playoff's by the Nuggets.
i disagree, beating good teams means more than beating bad teams. One with good teams head to head tie breakers are important (whereas bad teams wont make playoffs so tie breakers mean nothing) also since you are playing against good teams in the playoffs it matters more that you beat them. Ofcourse you have to get to the playoffs so you have to beat most everybody but just look at the texans last year. Beating bad teams is almost meaningless if you cant beat good teams. So while going 2-0 is obv better than 1-1, i am much more satisfied that our 1 win came against spurs bc that shows me we can beat good teams, all losing to utah showed me is that when 2 of our 4 top players are out we can lose to a lot of teams.
the roster that played in the playoffs was not the roster that got the 6th seed so that was a huuge difference. It was bc there record was what it was tht the rockets broke up a championship roster and moved otis thorpe to drexler and moved horry from small forward to power forward
This is so true. And yes Miami has legitimately gotten beat by Detroit, and earlier in the season by Philadelphia. Also to say that the Heat were taking the game off or that they didn't care about winning cause they know there are the champs is ridiculous. Teams and players care about every game, and take even the smallest losses very hard. Competitive athletes DO NOT get to that point in their professional careers without being.... well... COMPETITIVE. Any team in the NBA can beat any other NBA team in any given night. That being said, there is a phrase NBA people always use "In a Seven Game Series....." which carries a lot of weight. A good team will be able to win a 7 game series against an inferior team 99% of the time because good teams make adjustments in a 7 game series that takes away the edge, or the mismatch that the inferior team was using to beat them the game before. Should the Rockets lose to inferior teams... well of course not. You take every team seriously, pay attention to the scouting report, and give it 110% every night. However even the worst teams in the league have legit NBA star players & contrasting styles of play that can beat the Rockets on any given night. The Utah Jazz had that style of play on Monday night, and legitimately beat the Rockets. They deserve credit for their stellar gameplay on Monday. Trey Burke was hitting ridiculous shots, and Hayward was like a race horse on steroids sprinting around 3 or 4 screens to get open shots. However in a 7 game series, the Rockets would be able to make adjustments and probably win the next 4 straight games to close out the series in 5 games. There is no reason to really worry about THAT game so much.
The Rockets offered a 3 year contract for $13 million which Olajuwon rejected and rightfully so and Toronto gave him a 3 year contract for $18 million... Olajuwon arguably had the best two year run ever by a player during the championship years _ he deserved it just for that because he wasn't getting paid his worth then. The greatest sports icon this city has ever seen. He grew up here and Alexander was too cheap to cough up the extra $5 million when Dream probably wasn't going to play all the 3 years anyway so he could retire in the city he came to as a kid... $6 million dollars _ That's chump change to Alexander and Dream was still useful.
Yea, but my statement was in response to the other posters in reference to the "regular season".... We still ended up as a 6th seed and great teams are usually the ones that finish with top seeds... Even though the Rockets beat the odds and did something that has never happened by winning that Chip _ that gives me hope and I don't really worry about seeding _ just getting in... Especially with a young new team...
The game in Utah was a road game. Only 8 teams(including Houston) have a winning road record this year. Only 9 teams finished with a winning road record last year. Losing to Utah even on the road is a bad loss, but these kind of losses are going to happen. Unless you think this team is a 65 win team, our road record this season is going to be a little over .500.
Utah shot a 3p% that could have won the asg 3 point shootout a lot of times. That sort of thing happens occasionally, really occasionally.
Because our 3point% defense is 18th, and we have given up the 2nd most attempt. Consequently, we have allowed the 2nd most 3's in the league.
Not quite that bad, but 11-5 after losing to a hapless Bucks, and 16-6 after losing to the Bucks for a second time in a 2 week span. Very similar to our own 13-6 record. They were young, thrown together, and they struggled before developing into the team they are today. The Rockets will be fine. I know many people want the finished product in November, but you're living in a fantasy if you think that's how team sports work.
