I'm out here in NY and Stephen A Smith just said His sources in the last 24 hours and said Melo is "100% leaving" after this year. He also said the Knicks need to trade him at the deadline. Now I hate shaping a team around Melo as your best player... But if we put out Asik/Lin for him, who says no? I think as the third cog in our team, dude would beast
If we can get him for Asik/Lin/Dmo for a half season rental, I am ALL about that. Would not resign for anything over 3 years though.
He is one of the very few people Lebron can not stop and of Beverly, Harden, Melo, Jones and Dwight I doubt any team could stop our offense.
We had this exact thread last week. Only difference is Stephen A. being bolder in his prediction. Maybe Stephen is right. But IMO, id rather have Asik and Lin than Melo.
An inefficient unclutch ballhog who is also a defensive hole as well as a locker room cancer? No thanks. I will keep an unhappy Asik.
Yep. Would gladly rent a Melo if all were losing is Asik Lin and Dmo. Clears salary for next year too.
Not sure about Harden and Melo on the court together might end disastrous Because Iverson and Melo were underwhelming at best
But on a serious note, I'll take him as a rental, nothing for years tho. I feel like Carmelo is poison for some reason. I don't him to ruin the Rockets chemistry that we have been trying to develop here.
it would be bev, harden, parsons, melo, howard lineup. Melo plays better at the 4 than the 3. And Melo always plays well with other stars and when he is just a catch and shoot player.
Contract goes until the end of next season which is a player option. Not a bad move if he is committed. If it doesnt work they could trade him or just let him walk. Question is is who do the Rockets give up for him? New York does not need Asik. A third team would have to be involved.
posted this earlier- -Chicago is his best bet destination (and no the Rockets dont have the assets to compete UNLESS other teams that have better ones simply DONT WANT Melo... highly doubtful) Teams with better assets & means to trade for him- -Chicago- Deng expiring, Butler, Mirotic (best player in Europe), Char. 1st rounder, all of their 1st rounders -Boston- Rondo, 2 Brooklyn first rounders (good picks), all of their 1st rounders, Humphries expiring, & Jeff Green. -Clippers- Blake Griffin -Detroit- Greg Monroe or Drummond & Villanueva expiring then Houston comes around 4th or 5th best place Now here's the kicker- There MUST be a free agency destination that creates leverage. Those teams are- -LAL, Dallas, Phoenix, Philly, and a few others that he's NOT going to. HOWEVER, Chicago could very easily create MAX cap space by simply trading Taj Gibson and amenstying Boozer. IMO, its Chicago that is the obvious destination with SOME leverage, a great trade package, a great defensive unit to surround Melo, and another superstar player to partner with Melo in Rose. However... there is no backing so far to this rumor that I've seen. Might be going on behind the scenes, but its a little early in the season for Melo to be demanding a trade. Even if the rumor gets out there, I think you'll see him step up and put water on the fire the time being. That something that wouldn't happen until February.
