point guards, or people with higher assist to fga ratios, tend to have the highest to%'s in the league. so lin should generally be ahead of them.

I'm glad turnovers is our biggest problem since it's the easiest problem to fix. Obviously as the season goes by, the team will have more chemistry resulting in less turnovers and a more efficient offense. I'm actually surprised our offense is as good as it is now.

I'm more worried about TOV% for individual players. Harden isn't bad at all in this regard.

As a team, I am quite concerned about our turnovers, we are dead last in TOV rate. Lots of these turnovers lead to easy baskets, which hurts our defensive efficiency.

Same thing with OKC. Durant and Westbrook have high turnovers per game, but the guys that really turn it over are Perkins and Jackson.

Lots of teams are like this. The best players have the most turnovers per game, because of their minutes and usage, not because they are more likely to turn the ball over on a given play.

I really don't like turnover per game numbers. Doesn't account for minutes played per game and the amount you have the ball.

For guys playing ~30 minutes per game here is how they rank in turnovers per minute

    Starting from the worst

    Oladipo
    Westbrook
    Rose
    Wade
Bledsoe, Curry, Harden, Turner and James all tied

Please don't ever put Harden on the level of LeBron. LBJ can score, defend, pass, rebound and lead..Our guy can only be counted on to do one of those things well. So for him to get a pass on leading the league in turnovers is a joke.

Just curious, is there a way to compute TOs in points?

For example, a TO resulting in an opponent's basket should be a -4 point swing as you lost your chance to score a basket as well. Or to be fair, at least -3 points assuming you have a 50% chance to score a basket if not due to the TO.

A TO where opponents failed to capitalize should then be -1 point.

I assume someone has already worked out the points lost on TOs?

It doesn't matter if you think he's on the same level as lebron, the fact is that he plays the same role on our team. He handles the ball a LOT. There are 2 or 3 guys on the team that are worse at taking care of the ball so that in and of itself excuses harden from having the most TO's per game.

Point guards like Tinsley, Andre Miller, Rubio, and Vasquez are at the top of that list. There are lots of big guys like Asik, Perkins, and Reggie Evans.

Guys like Westbrook, Paul, Curry, and Lillard are way down the list.

The chemistry they are developing is TOs. That has to be corrected.

Tell you what. You give me Dwight Howard and the top 14 guys in turnovers per game, and you can have the rest of the league, and we'll see who has the better roster.

This thread reminds me of all the fools that wanted AB to replace Bev just because AB had a few good games. Some of you fans are so r****ded...

Sounds about right for a team just constructed.

    Way too early to overreact.

It's sickening to watch Harden dribble out the clock at the end of most quarters and then throw the ball to PBev or JLin and watch them jack up a contested 3 pointer. How does McFail get Harden to run an offensive set? Call timeout put the ball in somebody elses hand and run the offense. The good NBA teams shut this down every time.

You didn't look into Morey's stats on good TOs vs bad TOs.

You can live with low-percentage TOs committed in pursue of high-percentage shots, while walks, TOs on hand-offs/lazy perimeter passes, dribbling off your knee, etc. aren't the kind of TOs you can chuck up to the cost of doing high-efficiency business.

Also, a lot of HOU's TOs come from players getting triple/quadruple/quintuple-teamed on post-ups and drives while all his teammates have their hands on their hips having a picnic outside the arc. I am sure Harden in particular is especially sick of this, and Lin too to a lesser degree. When you have players who draw enormous amounts of defensive attention on their drives, you can't make it easy to collapse on the defenders by making it so they only need to keep your hands up for the long pass out. T-Jones really stands out here cutting to the basket to present a good angle for an interior pass when his defense-collapsing teammates drive. D-Mo (not so much anymore these days) and Smith (injured) used to do this a lot, too. Other players need to follow suit.
