The P85 is no joke for an electric car. I believe over 400HP. I actually would pick one up right now if it wasn't for the fact I live in a Condo community with no real garage to charge it. I think eventually I will be getting one.
It has the same battery technology my RC car had 7 years ago. And that is only because I was too cheap to get a balancing charger before then. The UI is different but the underlying technology it controls is outdated compared to a GT-R. I would personally rather have switches and knobs that don't vanish and can be operated with gloves and the status of which can be seen instantly. That is just my opinion though, the technology is more factual based.
You will also need a 90 amp 240V line installed. Not a big expense compared to the car but I doubt it would be allowed unless you live in a single family home.
Yeah I notice they have the kits on their site to do the install. Only thing I would have to worry about is at home when the time comes because here in So Cal there are chargers everywhere when you are out. They get the best spots at the mall much like handicap spots.
An electrician would have to do the install. It would require new breakers and wiring from your breaker box. The highest power in most homes is 240V 30 amps for things like electric ovens and dryers. EDIT: Sorry I just saw kit and assumed you thought it was something like an IKEA table or something. An electrician can put it in no problem.
On there site it says it comes with a Mobile adapter that you can use with a 110v plug or a normal 240 plug. The difference being that it will give you a lot less range per hour of charge then the full on big voltage unit.
Both are great cars, but assuming you are in houston why would you want the stiff suspension in m6? I guess you can change the suspension with the driving mode, but the roads here are ****. I see no point of owning a performance sports car where the roads are terrible. That being said 650 would be my choice, cheaper and looks just as slick!
A normal plug gives out 1500 watts vs the 17,000 or so you get from a 90 amp 240V. So I would say it would pretty much be required. Unless someone in your circumstance who couldn't have the high power line no matter the expense. That is over 10 times the charging time. I mean the big line still take 4 hours. And they are getting worse. Seriously I drive to downtown everyday and am thinking of getting a jeep or something.
I'm no car aficionado but the roads factor is a serious one. I seriously don't understand how anyone would want to drive a low profile sports car in this city - the roads are absolute garbage. My dad has a quattroporte and has had multiple blow outs due to potholes etc. I don't even like driving it bc the roads are so bad.
Tesla is pretty much the first nice car I have owned so I guess I don't miss the engine growl. But once every few days somebody will pull up next to me at a red light and feel the need to rev their engine.
You can charge a Tesla with a normal 110 outlet and it charges at 5mph. The 220 charges at 30mph. You can choose to upgrade to dual chargers and then it charges at 60mph.
Ah my mistake. My family had a negative impression of BMW reliability and maintenance after owning the E32 7 series, E31 8 series, and E65 7 series. The cars were in the shop too often for the smallest issues with hefty repair costs.
although driving stock is nice and comfortable, the roads aren't really that bad. I been driving low pretty much last 13+ years in Houston. You just have to know the road and be attentive. Right now my M3 is stock but I'm still used to leaving driveways slanted lol.
I only know mostly about e9x m3's but from what I seen, BMW really stepped up their reliability in their newer models. I too was concerned but read the forums, and only seen very few issues.
