Its an upgrade over Schaub. Unless we can get Big Ben. Just dont think any qb in this draft is worth a #1 overall. Clowney next to Watt will be lethal.
If we have the #1 overall pick, I'm still for Jadeveon Clowney every time. Call me crazy, but I'm always opposed to skipping one of the few sure things in favor of a positional need. Him and Watt at the ends would be frightening. This is a deep QB draft, and I'm very confident the first pick of the second round will have opportunities for NFL caliber QB's. Brett Hundley is a great dual-threat prospect that could be available. Mettenberger made considerable progress, and Carr looks nearly as promising as Bridgewater(Though I admittedly don't like his hand size. Just isn't a "Bridgewater or Bust" scenario the way I see it.
Earlier I posted about my interest in Zach Mettenberger from LSU. ESPN is reporting he tore his ACL, so looks like he'll likely be available in the middle of the draft. If he's there in the 4th, I'd love to take him and make him a project for a couple of years. I know we have Keenum and possibly Yates, plus we might draft Bridgewater as well, but Mettenberger has an elite arm, with great size. It may not be a popular option, but if he's there in the 4th or 5th, we should definitely take him.
we are in salary cap hell. no way we can pay cutler. he will demand decent $.. not only is he not worth it, we don't have that kind of money to throw around.
schaub has always been a product of kubiak's system. also, it didn't hurt he had arian in his prime. we need a QB who is not a "system qb". a QB who can produce in any kind of system, and that includes making plays when all hell breaks loose. a qb with cement shoes does not really fit into the mold of modern NFL qb's (minues brady and manning). a very high 2nd round pick on an unathletic statue of a qb recovering from a torn acl is a very bad idea. but, i won't put it past rick smith. afterall, he handed schaub, cushing, and foster ridiculous contracts.
"Sure things" don't exist in NFL drafts. It's a myth that spreads because colossal busts at non-QB positions are much less talked about than QB busts. I mean, how many people talk about Robert Gallery as opposed to Vince Young?
russell wilson has 2 black parents http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/players/1825122/teddy-bridgewater STRENGTHS: Shows very good weight distribution and passing mechanics. Steps into the face of pressure and delivers, showing admirable toughness on each snap to bounce back after big hits. Smooth mobility to extend and move the pocket with the quickness to pick up yards with his legs if needed. Impressive accuracy and touch on throws to all levels of the field. Quick and efficient movements in his technique and does an excellent job with fakes, selling and focusing on the details. He is poised and with very good footwork in the pocket. Mature and grounded individual who obviously loves football. Sharp-witted and retains information extremely well. Makes it look easy on the field and appears to "get it," elevating the play of those around him. WEAKNESSES: Although quick, Bridgewater has a lower than ideal release point with the ball shooting passed his ear. Some durability concerns after all the hits he has taken over his career, specifically to his wrist and ankle. Room to improve his touch and ball placement on downfield throws. Strong performances in big games including against Florida in the Sugar Bowl following the 2012 season, but played mediocre talent on a weekly basis in the American Athletic Conference. COMPARES TO: Taller Russell Wilson, Seattle Seahawks - NFL analysts often say that if Russell Wilson was 3-4 inches taller, he would have been a first round pick. Well, that might hold true with Bridgewater who is a similar prospect as Wilson (smart, athletic, mature, accurate) except he is taller with more prototypical height for the NFL.
Wilson is multiracial. His racial background is mostly African American, though he also has some Native American ancestry - From wiki Not 100% african american brah
Yes, there's always a chance of failure. Injury, drug use, etc. **** happens. But colloquially, "sure things" are the players who will almost certainly succeed on the field. The Ricky Williams, sure-thing-gone-wrong happen. However, Andrew Luck, Peyton Manning, Calvin Johnson, Suh. As prospects, they are a cut above the Bridgewater's. Doesn't mean he won't be great either. I doubted Cam Newton, but he's been fantastic. I just think Clowney is the better bet to be an impactful player at the next level, and that other QB's with similar upside will be available. And I never met many people who didn't attend UT that put Young in that air either. Not with those mechanics.
Not a believer that You go QB for sure, but am sold on Bridgewater and we need to grab him if he's there.
And ignorant people who feel the need to bring race into the forum should be banned. So tired of stupid people. And this is coming from someone who equally hates political correctness.
For those of you not wanting Clowney because he only has 2 sacks don't worry about it too much, from the film I have seen he gets double teamed on almost every passing play. In the NFL Clowney will get one on one opportunities and with Watt it is almost a given he will be guarded one on one. Either way whoever we draft Clowney/Bridgewater/Barr I will be happy
Because qbs are more impactful than d lineman. My worse case scenario for clowney would be him having a terrible work ethic(not learning anything from JJ), a bad attitude, but st the end of the day raw talent can get you far as a d lineman and he'll still have Whitney merciless like numbers. Bridgewaters worst case scenario would be him not being able to adjust to the NFL game and freak out under pressure and have a year similar to schaub this year (which might not be an absolute disaster being that Jameis is eligible next yr). But still my point is that qb mistakes will cost a team more than a d lineman mistake. With that being said I think we'll land a good pick either way. But I'm still in favor of trading down.
