I was thinking of starting a thread like this on the rockets youth. I think the growing pains are to expected. Winning big one night and losing bad another. Volatility is part of being young and exploring the ceiling of potential. The only factor that I'm not sure about with this team is whether or not they're humble and hungry enough to learn. Youth offers potential but there is certainly no guarantee of reaching that potential.

francisco garcia and james harden both took turns playing coach (chastising teammates?) at the jazz game - walking past mchale out on the floor to do so.

it didn't seem like the coaching staff minded

Harden and Howard should not lose to Jazz. No excuses. They should take it personally. That was embarrassing.

Signs this team needs a lot of maturing before contending: They've played literally 19 games together.

not to call out this thread specifically, but it does fit the pattern.

signs these posters need a lot of maturing before posting on clutchfans
    1. Overreact after win
    2. Overreact after loss
    3. Assign all blame to a singular player
    4. Assign all accolades to a singular player
    5. Don't recognize trap games
    6. Don't recognize tough stretches in schedule and dismiss team for too many losses
    7. Don't recognize easy portions of schedule and assign dominance due to three crappy wins
    8. associate themselves with any ...O.F. fans
    9. associate themselves with any ...O.H. haters

Not trying to be one of the guys that waxes poetic on how the board was better back in the day, but damn.... it's unbearable coming into GARM these days to sift through volumes of crap to get three quality posts.

To add to this thread and not just rant - Yes, this team has to mature. They were changed significantly in the off-season due to the acquisition of DH and so far the results have been wildly successful. However, it needs to be noted to all the kids here - there is no judging this team until we see performance in the playoffs. Not only that - but early season injuries, potential pending trades, and prima donna acts by back up players have actually impacted this team regardless of the top 5 conference slot.

Recall the building of Miami's big three and how they were lambasted in the media early for mediocrity. It takes time to gel. To expect this team to roll off 20 straight wins is unrealistic. To see a string of wins culminating with a defeat of SA in SA on the second half of a back-to-back is extremely promising. To see them follow that up with a loss in Utah while missing CP in an obvious trap game - is no flipping big deal.

When someone say the coach should "demands accountability", they mean the coach should get the results they (the fan) wants.

I'm sorry, but when a coach says his team wasn't ready to play, that's on the coaching staff.

Yeah they need seasoning for sure. Even though they beat the spurs, they way they lost the lead showed me a lot. They were jacking up bad shots and were not executing to get a good shot. Their situational basketball is poor right now. I mean a shot you take in the 2nd qt is different than one you take when run is taking place. I think because they're still trying to figure it out, they struggle with some of these situations.

I second everything you said. Especially the part about the board used to be better with good articles from Bima and the others. Those where the days.

Well it's not easy to take criticism about someone's D, for example, from a guy who doesn't play any D at all.

Each game is an indicator of a team's progress in some areas, and not at all in others. If a team has a bad shooting night, that does not mean you have to go out and trade for shooters. But when you have a game where players aren't even bothering to challenge shots throughout the entire game, that's not a bad game or a relapse, nor does it have anything to do with the fact they only played together as a team for 19 games. It doesn't matter if they played 19 games or 91. That's a team not taking the game seriously, and sometimes you need a trap game to expose that. If it takes them all season to realize this, it's already too late, as the good teams will be mentally far ahead having been playing with that conviction all season. Big leads and big point spreads will be litmus tests throughout the season in this regard. I'm sure there were a number of us who saw this loss coming a mile away.

Our lineup with Brooks, Bev, Harden, Casspi and Howard killed us. Could not get any stops. Don't know what was wrong with coach?? Should have put in Jones and Garcia for Brooks and Bev...would have been a W!

It doesn't mean they want teams to take uncontested 2s. I saw Asik didn't even bother to put his arms up to contest when Utah was making J after J 5 feets from the bucket.

They didn't contest shots near the basket, away from the basket, from the 3 point line...

The Rockets played their best ball of the season when they didn't allow a player who wasn't physically healthy enough to play hard-nosed defense, on the court. If there's blame to be had, it's even allowing Harden to play until he's 100%. Until then he's literally a liability, and I don't see how this is going to get any better. Who's to blame for that?
