I don't see how drafting Bridgewater is more "risky" than drafting Clowney, a player who's motor is being questioned by pretty much everyone.
qb's are only as good as the talent aound them look at wilson, and kaepernick this year... both have elite talent around them, compare them with cam or rg3 and its no secret why they havent won games
Yeah it's not, it's all assuming Clowney grades out well. It's a risk either way. But if Clowney grades out as A+, the next Ware. And Bridgewater grades out as expected, likely slating him as the 4th QB taken in the 2012 draft after Wilson - then you have a problem. B+ QB at a 99% important position? Or A+ DE/OLB at a 95% important position?
I want Bridgewater but I have a feeling the Texans are gonna Schaub the number 1 pick and draft a CB or something
This is our "Colts" year. Those guys had one down year and ended up with Luck, let us have one bad year and end up with Bridgewater. Here's to Thursday.
Bridgewater would've gone ahead of Wilson if they came out in the same draft. You can look back and be revisionist based up their production the last 2 years, but Wilson wasn't that highly rated because of his height. Don't forget that he was actually the 6th QB taken after Tannehill, Brandon Weeden, and Brock Osweiler. NFL.com gave him a grade of 68.5 where as Luck and Griffin had grades of 97 and 95. Kirk Cousins and Nick Foles were rated higher than Wilson. I'd expect Bridgewater to have a grade around 93 to 95. That's not to say he'll be better than Wilson, but not having knowledge of how either would do as a pro, Bridgewater definitely would've been drafted before Wilson and likely wouldn't been the 3rd QB taken in the 2012 draft after Luck and RGIII.
Cam is winning basically with no offensive weapons look at who Stafford, Dalton, and Romo throw too compared to Cam and Rg3
I'm not too huge of a Bridgewater fan but understand that if we don't draft him, the jags surely will. We need a franchise qb to put this season behind us and begin a new era.
Kaepernick was one play away from winning. Does Colin play special teams? Is it his fault Jacoby Jones went off?
The thing is Bridgewater has a high football IQ. I can see why people aren't high on him, but his intelligence and decision making are what makes me sold on the guy. I saw the same thing with Russell Wilson(who I thought was just as good as Luck and RG3). He makes the right throws, he knows when to scramble, he has potentially elite pocket presence and he can read the defense and make audibles and adjustments. He's actually got some speed, just doesn't show it off as much as he only runs if he needs to. I'm not the biggest fan of Mariota(or any Oregon qb ever for that matter) and I think it's better that he stayed one more year to better develop. Sucks that Famous Jameis isn't eligible to come out this year, that guy is gonna be a stud. I'd also not be against trading down to get a tackle and maybe snagging another pick late in the first possibly trying to snag up Johnny Football. Say what you will about him, the guy put up ridiculous numbers against some of the best defenses(Minus LSU of course ) including Bama twice. But I do think the absence of Mariota in this draft raises his stock
Right now Bridgewater is ahead of RGIII going into the draft (IMO). He is not the runner that RGIII was/is although not as far behind as some on here suggest but he is a much better pro style QB. Andrew Luck is the only QB in recent drafts that I would rank higher but he did not show as big improvement as Bridgewater over his college career. And that's because Luck had the pedigree behind him. He was groomed his whole life to be a pro while Bridgewater was trying to survive and hope his mom didn't die. (He actually considered quiting football his senior HS year) Bridgewater is a great kid with great character who just soaked up coaching from his offensive coordinator and head coach. He will only get better and as much as I can be sure about a prospect I am sure about him. He will not be a bust. I am a Keenum fan and believe he belongs in this league and maybe with a little more experience he can lead us to the super bowl provided we have everything else (elite D and running game) but Bridgewater has that star power and he will get better. He steps up in big games. He is a winner.
DE/OLB is NOT 95% important position if QB is 99%. It's at best 50%. If the Texans traded Watt for any top tier QB, the Texans would win at least 3~4 more games in the season. By NBA standard, that difference between Lebron James and Kevin Martin. The game of football is utterly, ridiculously biased towards the QB in terms of position importance. It used to not be that way, but rule changes that are favoring the passing game have greatly skewed the value of the QB position. Personally I would look at it this way. If Bridgewater has a 30% of being an elite QB, I would immediately take him #1. There have been tons of DE/OLB top of the 1st round busts too. Unless you have a time machine that tells me 10 years later that Clowney has a HOF career, no way I'm taking him above any QB with reasonable top-end potential.
Wilson was the 6th QB off the board in that draft. People point to the rare success like him, but there are tons of failures in the mix when you start taking the less-than-sure thing. Certainly, you don't take a QB at #1 just for the hell of it - but most NFL people seem to be of the belief that Bridgewater is a top-tier guy. Wilson was not remotely looked at that way which is why he was the 6th guy taken.
which ever fanbase ends up with bridgewater will likley have to see this picture a few times a year..
i do not trust rick smith with the #1 overall pick. we'll beat jax on thurs, so no use discussing teddy bridgewater.
bridgwater sucks..plays in the AAC manziel is the right pick. ..Curious how OP picks the one bowl game aganist Florida..How about was manziel did to Bama the NC that year in bama..smh
