No idea the validity of any of the rumors above, but I like the simple structure of the contract offers, with a base pay + performance bonuses for conference title / BCS win / NT win, although the BCS isn't going to exist next year so that part would make me suspicious of it's reliability.

Mack Brown is so situationally r****ded, he tried to block a punt against Colorado and it cost them a shot at the national championship game - then tonight up 20-7 with 2 minutes to go he tries to go for the block again and 15 yard roughing penalty. I mean DAMNIT Mack, you are getting the ball back with 2 mins to go and 2 timeouts. STOP BEING AN IDIOT ! DD
This game is taking forever. 3 hours in and they still have a full quarter to go. Where's Fatty Fatbastard when you need a techie to pick on?
It's looking like a win and an Ok St. loss earns us a trip to the Fiesta Bowl against... Northern Illinois. A win and an Ok St win sends us to the cotton bowl against LSU. I can live with that.
LSU would steamroll us. I'm not typically a big believer in the SEC hype machine, but this is one year that I hope we land a patsy in whatever bowl game we end up in. We're just too limited offensively to play with the big boys.
What if you knew that going to the Cotton Bowl and getting pasted by LSU meant a new coaching regime OR a BCS game meant Mack gets at least another year?
I've never really been able to get behind cheering against my team in hopes of future change. I also don't hate Mack - I think it's time for him to move on, but I wouldn't be seething if he were coach next year. So, in that scenario, I would cheer for us to go to a BCS game (seems odd to even type it considering how mediocre this team is) That said, I don't think Mack will be coach next year either way.
My biggest concern is that a BCS game would be a smokescreen. This team isn't good enough to play in one, but could stumble into the Fiesta Bowl anyway. The damage Mack has done to the program over the past few years is much alarming from a recruiting standpoint. With Briles and Sumlin locked up at Baylor and A&M, in-state recruits no longer see Texas as the the program to play for. UT hasn't won, has fallen on its face in games (outside of OU this year) and has lost a lot of its luster. The longer Mack stays, the more the recruiting edge dulls over time.
Maybe ol' Mack says "I FIXED IT" and rides off into the Arizona sunset... ...doubtful I don't think it will be an issue anyway. I think there's 1-2 losses to come - landing in the Alamo Bowl game against Oregon could be extremely ugly.
Looking forward to a good game this Saturday UT fans. Hopefully if OU can beat Okie St, our game will be for the outright Big 12 champion.
From Pete Thamel at CNNSI: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/college-football/news/20131203/gus-malzahn-auburn-tigers/?eref=sihp
Auburn better get that Natty this year, then! Might not have the opportunity for quite a while if Malzahn bounces.
I'd much rather have Malzahn than Saban. Saban's age is a concern - it'll take a season or two to recruit at a "Texas level" again and by then Saban could already be considering retirement. We're far from being the instant national championship contender that I believe Saban would want to coach for.
Sounds highly opinionated and Pete Thamel is hardly a reliable source, but Malzahn will be a hot name. Texas could certainly come calling. I shall believe it when I see it.
The other issue is that Jimmy Sexton (Malzahn's agent, also reps Saban) is notorious for stunts like this. Even if his client is perfectly happy, he always "leaks" stuff about a coach's outside interest because it gets the current employer to offer a raise. Always a possibility.
