i hate laughing right now, since for some reason this news jolted me and bummed me out, but this post made me guffaw. it's like if this didn't happen now, whenever he died, there would have been a post saying "i can't believe this, i just watched fast and furious 39 yesterday". an unlikely/silly successful movie franchise. RIP, Paul. Too damn young.
You can't compare the two at all...has nothing to do with self respect. Soldiers are all honored, but unless you know a soldier that has died, there is no reason to feel any emotion towards the death of someone that is just a name. Totally different than Paul Walker, a person who millions and millions of people have been following for years. And it makes no difference if he was a good actor or not...fact of the matter is that he, more or less, is a household name...so his death should actually elicit more of a response than a random soldier that nobody knows about.
From wikipedia:accident An accident, mishap, or, more archaically, misadventure, is an unforeseen and unplanned event or circumstance, often with lack of intention or necessity.
He was the co-star of a multi-billion dollar franchise that could've gone on for another 3 or 4 films. I'd wager a lot of people know who he is. Now if it had been Lucas Black(the dude from Tokyo Drift) who'd been killed in a car wreck, you'd have a point.
We pay our entertainment people, celebrities, and sports athletes millions. They make more in a year than most doctors, soldiers, teachers, officers, firefighters, and paramedics make in their entire lifetimes. I hate this melodramatic crap that gets spewed every time this happens. Our society is built this way. It has been and it always will be. Does it suck? I don't know. Not my call. Logically, I can say I have more of a relation/connection to Paul Walker than I do to any soldier that has died fighting for our country. That's the truth. Honestly. This fake surprise and uproar is ridiculous.
I'd venture to say that pretty much anyone between the age of 13 and 40 knows who he is, unless they've been trapped in Antarctica for the last decade. You might not like it, but he can certainly qualify as a household name. Just bc you may not like him as an actor...or you may not like the series...doesn't mean he wasn't ridiculously popular, specially among the female species.
pretty sad, FAF movies and "oconner" himself inspired me to get into the car scene. Sad day for all enthusiasts out there. the scene wouldn't be the same without him.
Damn I'm bummed. This news came out of nowhere, RIP Mr. Walker <iframe width="560" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/osfEQTR-45M" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
Tragic. Also, thankfully that speeding car did not hit another innocent bystander or other car/s. That GT must have been going at a really high speed to get spliced up by a tree and then to catch fire and not to even give time for the two occupants to escape, who were passed out or maybe even dead on impact.
Doesn't matter what you think of him as an actor or about the series. Not everyone loves or identifies with award winning work. Plus, people aren't necessarily hit with emotion over him personally, but with his work being part of their lives for a decade. People remember watching with their SO every premiere at the movies, or having FF marathons at home. Or maybe they just love cars or the cast he was part of. Maybe all their friends always caught the premier at midnight, etc...It's just the familiarity people feel.
What a stupid ass comparison and I hate when a celeb dies people go " well why don't you folks care about the other millions of people dying in the world" Is it really that hard to tell why some actor is getting all this attention when he dies?
Did you call the Fast and Furious award winning work? Cheap entertainment, yes. Award winning. Hardly. And no, he isn't a household name.
No, I was saying people can identify with other work, it doesn't have to be award winning. It's like loving the 22 game rockets squad, when they didn't do much else. People don't have to just enjoy the champions. He is a household name with the younger crowd. His FB RIP page already has over a million likes and it hasn't even been a day. I have yet to read anyone asking who he was. People are responding to his name alone. I personally don't think his acting was that good, but you can't deny his popularity.
Didn't realize how many little b****es we had in the forum. A man died, there is a meaning to resting in peace y'all know. Idiots.
i really don't care when celebraties die but sometimes the feelings are so surreal. we should cherish every month in life, it's something we can never get back. and things happen so fast that you can never get the opportunity to tell people how you really feel about them. so tell the people who you love how you feel about them, you might never get that chance again.
