If Morey's hand is forced to move Asik before the right trade is available, then trading Asik will be a downgrade. I read for example an article on Bleacherreport saying that it is likely the Rockets will end up having to trade Asik for a lottery pick.

All this team needs is time and health.

I don't know why people are just assuming that Asik is fine now that we're winning. Asik was on a Chicago team that people believed would be perennial contenders for the next 5 years. He still wanted Chicago to not match Houston's offer because he wanted to start. Asik is going to be traded because he wants to be traded. That part is quite simple.

Also, the Rockets are very shallow at wing positions. Casual fans and Lin fans always get upset because McHale seemingly do not hold Parsons/Harden accountable for bad play. Guess what? That's because McHale has nobody to bench them for. If the Rockets had the SG/SF versions of Beverley and Brooks? You better believe Harden would have 20minute games when he's sucking.

The minimal moves the Rockets HAVE to make are

    1. Trade Asik
    2. Acquire a quality center to replace Asik
    3. Add wing depth

Otherwise, I shudder at the idea of Harden and Parsons being among league leaders in minutes again.

My struggle is this, nights like this really proves they need rondo as a floor general and personality, but is he worth giving up parsons in 2 yrs? I know its easy to say morey found parsons in the 2nd and he can do it again, but if he was that good he wouldn't have wasted the1st rd pick on morris. Basketball economics say the rockets can't afford rondo,parson(10m),harden,and howard. I think best case scenerio as he gets more confidence beverly turns into a young fisher type or they get a guy like dragic back maybe. That way you can keep parsons in 2yrs.

Dwight wouldn't have signed if the luxury tax would lead to significant talent downgrades. That there is OKC ball. In the 10 years of the luxury tax, the number of teams who have won whilst not paying the tax is 0, it will probably happen eventually but it hasn't occurred like this by accident.

You also have to have vision and forecast. The spurs knew about what someone would offer manu. So they dumped some guys, let guys go so they could match. Denver gave a strong offer, spurs matched. Vice versa, gsw and cleveland were tied up with some deals and couldn't match arenas nor boozer. You always have to look ahead. Parson is playing at an all star level. How many sfs are better than him in the west right now? He will command 9-10m per. If you trade for rondo and his 12m,the rockets would have 50m tied up in 4 players. They could upgrade the pg with someone like dragic who will cost 4m less than rondo and be able to keep parsons.
