McHale is actually Morey's play of the game + some aspect of Adelman's read and react Offense plus "How to get the team going with a dominating Center in the middle"

Layup drills, Dunks, Corner threes, PNR, and getting to the Rim consistently getting FTs with some post up moves by Dwight and Co
    Shutting down the Lane

Turnovers are our weakness and I do not think McHale produces them

I'm not saying to fire Mchale, but I think it was a very bad idea to play Harden while he is still injured.

I'm not saying McHale should be fired, but I don't think he had played a big part on our recent success. He wasn't playing TJones much until TT failed miserably and Omer quit, then TJones plays like a star. He wasn't playing Agent 0 much until I forgot what happened and Agent 0 plays like it's 2009. It was fortuitous that he stumbled upon two very good player whom he had overlooked.

Anyway, if it ain't broke, don't fix/break it. We have so much talent we can win a lot of games under just any coach.

This would be true if you believe that all players success in the NBA can be attributed to themselves only and never the coaches. Therefore, Parsons, Jones, Beverley, Lin(assuming you believe he is better now than he was with the Knicks), Asik, etc. all developed their game independent of any coaching.

If that's truly the case, then there's no point in complaining about coaches ever, because you are implying that coaches literally have no influence on the team.

Whether his system is good or bad, one thing is the players are buying into it 1st & 2nd unit. Even when ASIK is in they are starting to run ball through post look for cuts or kickouts like they do with Howard. Even noticed it when Dmo came in at center.

not saying the offense plays are perfect, but like the spurs & pop they are sticking to script running the machine throughout the game. So the consistency & buying into the system is there. I can respect that with 12-5 record

Yep. Any NBA roster that has to integrate two new starters and a significant role player into the system is going to improve greatly over the first 2-3 months of the season. McHale also had to integrate post up into the offensive system. As the players become more comfortable with each other and the flow of the offense the team will improve.

yeah they still run the R&R & pick & roll... But noticed he added in the post up not only for Dwight, for whoever the center is on the floor. So he has improved the offense. If he can start drawing up some better end of the game plays, I'm cool with Mchale. I've noticed harden slowed down on the ISO also. One thing about mchale is he puts players in a position to excel in Houston who've had bad seasons other places Garcia, casspi, brooks, not many coaches can do that.

Having watched McHale for decades I am positive that the guy absolutely hates losing. If a player can convince McHale that their playing him increases the chance of the Rockets winning, that player will see the floor.

Kevin McHale outcoached his fellow half-Croatian, Greg Popovich, tonight.

There is never any question that the guy can't stand to lose. How many HOF'ers do you know would embrace the 6th man role if it meant helping the team win?

There are observations which just an average fan can observe - I want to know why our coaching staff aren't noticing the same things.

    1) This travels back to last season as well.
When the going gets tough in the 4th quarter our offense stops and we launch away from downtown to try to get back in the game.
Sometimes it works, other times it doesn't. And for a few minute stretch in the 4th we produce next to nothing offensively because we just fire away from downtown to try to reduce the deficit in a hurry.
Meanwhile we play defense, stop the opponents lead from ballooning, and eventually start attacking the rim again and generating buckets.
If that few minute stretch of horrible shot attempts is eradicated and we just continue plugging away at the rim - we continue to score and reduce the lead setting us up for a better chance to win the game.

    2) We heard before the season started that the team was more focused on stopping the corner 3 ball.
Tonight, and in previous games our defensive ideology has been to pack the paint on a lot of the penetration and leave players on islands outside. It resulted in a couple of Spurs' 3 pointers tonight.
Why are we leaving Belinelli wide open. Why are we leaving Bonner wide open. Why are we doubling/triple/quadruple teaming a penetrating Ginobili when often times Asik/Dwight is capable of changing the play (I know the Spurs had a few dump offs to the big man when Asik/Dwight double the penetrator but our help defenders weren't leaving their man to stop that - they were leaving their man to stop the ball handler)

    3) WHY FOR THE LOVE OF GOD did we continue time and time again to push up on Tony Parker in the Spurs' half court offense.
He had a feast on simply driving past his man when this happened.
Brooks had a couple of plays where he sagged off a little and Parker eventually took the jumper - and missed. Amazing.

    4) Garcia and Asik ran a beautiful 2 man play yesterday when Garcia drove in from the corner and attracted Asik's big man - once he could see the help coming made a beautiful bounce pass to Asik for an easy dunk.
We NEED a play drawn up where Harden and Howard are the only Rockets players on one side of the court and run this play to death either letting Harden penetrate one on one or feeding Howard for the lob or an easy finish like Garcia created for Asik.
It's almost 20 games into the season and we still don't have a stock standard play we can go to and generate an easy bucket out of.
(this would also alleviate the problem mentioned in example 1)
There are so many variations they could make from this play as well that it quite frankly leaves me dumbfounded that we aren't exploited our two best players' best talents offensively.
