Tell that to Washington when they forked over a top-12 protected pick for an expiring Gortat whether they wanted to just eat Doritos or not.

Currently GMs can say this because the market as of this moment is low. But the market is ALWAYS low at this point in the season. It takes until January and Feburary GM jobs are on the line, team playoff/contending hopes are on the line, that other GMs are going to pay the proper price. There's a reason why deals are done near the trade deadline and not the beginning of the season.

I don't know which team you root for. But if your team desperately need a center come time for the playoff push, your GM will pay Morey properly for Asik. It's simple economics.

[rquoter] It's December, so the NBA trade market heats up. #Knicks, like others, are shopping, what's available? More:

    Not much.

The name that is dominating the early rumors is Omer Asik of the Rockets. The disgruntled center can be had, but Houston isn't just giving him away.

In fact, the Rockets are setting the market high for Asik, with a demand of two first round picks in any deal.

Ahh so much sour grapes from rival gm's tired of getting the losing end of deals.

Don't fight it, every GM will get haunted by Murrey at some point..

Rival GM's: "Morey can't get James Harden"
"Morey can't get Howard to Houston"
"Morey over paid for Jeremy Lin."

Blah blah blah... If rival GM's are upset at Morey, then they need to get off their fat, lazy white asses and work harder.

Two 1st rounders is not a high bar, at least not without some definition of the quality of the picks. Two lotto picks is steep, but 2 picks at the end of the first round is quite cheap. That he's asking for 2 picks suggests to me that he's fine not getting any lotto picks, making the deal actually pretty cheap. If you were trading for Asik, would you rather give up a #9 or a #18 and a #21?

Indeed...... although I just smash all of them together (including our fat white GM) and you come out with an obese, middle aged white male that wears dress pants with an elastic waist band and eats at McDonalds 5 times a week.

Thank you for this. Surprised that Millsap is that high. He's #41 on offense and #21 on defense, but #7 overall.

This seems to illustrate that the vast majority of the league consists of one-way players. Only 51 of the 450+ players included had a positive impact on both ends of the court.

If we can get Millsap and a pick for Asik (Hawks own all of their 1st, and have swaps with the Nets for 2014 and 2015), I'd be very happy.

Considering the contract that most 7 footers with any type of skill is in the 10mill range it's hardly an albatross contract in the NBA.

Actually, quite a few stats disagree with that assessment. Generally speaking, stats that factor plus/minus stats give Asik a fair assessment as his defensive impact is not adequately rated by most stats. I do agree that Asik is probably the third best Rocket this season and was easily the second best last year.

Also, I would not count PER as an advanced stat. I don't even think Hollinger likes it too much today, but was the best available with public data at the time.
