I think we need a back up 2 that can spell Harden. If we can get Turner or Afflao or Hayward I think that is the way to go. Everyone keeps expecting jones to fail but he has been doing a good job. We need depth at the 2 it that simple.
I don't think Utah will let Hayward go and Afflalo may be a surprise for Orlando and they may want to keep him. If that's the case, maybe target Victor Oladipo... Orlando is in bad need of a point guard and trading Jermey might can get that done. Afflalo and Jermey would be a nice backcourt for them and they have a center in place. I would also target Tony Snell and or Jimmy Butler from Chicago and The Alphabet from Milwaukee. Need insurance for Parsons in case they can't afford to keep him...
Why would Houston trade for the fairly expensive and borderline All-Star Arron Afflalo when all he would be is a backup SG? Why would the rebuilding Bucks trade John Henson, who has been one of their few bright spots? Why would Chicago trade Jimmy Butler, one of the league's top bang-for-your-buck players and a prototypical threes-and-d SF? These are some really random ideas, guys.
I am beginning to wonder if Morey goes through here and sends other GM our ridiculous trade ideas. Maybe that's why he is called delusional.
And why would Orlando trade for Asik when they have Vucevic? Teams that need Asik to start in the middle for them: Atlanta Boston Cleveland Charlotte (although they probably would disagree) Dallas Denver LAL Miami New Orleans OKC Philly Utah Additional teams that Asik would be an upgrade at the 5: Brooklyn LAC MIL MIN NYK Port PHX Washington
The Celtics probably win their division this season if Rajon Rondo comes back strong and if they can acquire a bona fide starting C. Omer Asik is an obvious target. This makes sense: Omer Asik to Boston; Keith Bogans (expiring contract, won't play for Houston) and a protected first round pick to Houston Portland can and probably will make the same sort of offer for Asik (Robin Lopez's expiring contract plus either a protected first round pick or C.J. McCollom). My guess is that Daryl Morey makes one of these two trades on December 15. He may be able to squeeze a bit more out of Portland, as that is such a badly run organization. I think Danny Ainge will be firm on his offer, although I suppose Ainge might toss in a second round pick. My guess is that Morey is currently doing his due diligence, by seeing if he can do better than this (hence the claim by a rival GM that Morey is being "delusional" regarding Asik's trade value), but when he discovers that he can't do better, he trades Asik to Portland or Boston, right on Dec 15 (fifteen days from now). Asik is for sure a goner, by the end of December. The only question is if Jeremy Lin's a goner, too. If Houston can make the same sort of deal for Lin (i.e., an expiring contract plus a first round pick), I think he's a goner, too. $15 mil is a lot of money, and that's what Lin gets paid next season. VERY steep price for a player of his caliber. A first round pick is the more marketable/valuable asset. Plus, Aaron Brooks appears capable of holding down the fort as the team's third guard until Isaiah Canaan is ready, which may be sooner than you think. If you make both trades right on Dec 15, then you have the ability to offer one or both expiring contracts (along with one or more draft picks, and maybe Donatas Motiejunas) for good veteran players who will be made available by teams in mid-February. For example, Chicago may decide to trade Luol Deng and reboot next summer, and Houston will be able to give Chicago what it wants (expirings plus a draft pick). In other words, don't assume Houston is done dealing after trading Asik and (if they can) Lin.
You're right, "rebuilding" isn't the right word. But they REALLY like John Henson. He's not going anywhere. Besides, Larry Sanders and Omer Asik can't play together. Milwaukee is one of the two teams (Utah is the other) who I think may trade an expiring contract (Caron Butler for Milwaukee, either Andris Biedrins or Richard Jefferson for Utah) along with a protected first round pick for Lin. So again, you're right, "rebuilding" was a poor word choice.
If we're gonna trade for Bogans, we might as well get KHump. After all he is a big and could be your backup 5 for this year. On an expiring $12 million deal. So the salary would work for Asik straight up along with the first rounder.
Except Kris Humphries makes $12 mil this season, whereas Keith Bogans makes $5 mil. Which is why Houston prefers Bogans. Also, I suspect Danny Ainge is going to try to package Humphries' large expiring contract with Gerald Wallace's terrible contract for a massive contract that expires at the end of the 2014-15 season, such as Amare Stoudemire. Boston would be trading short term tax relief (Humphries) to New York (who needs tax relief) for more cap flexibility in the summer of 2015.
What do you guys think about a Lin for Rubio/filler deal? Imagine what Rubio can do feeding the rock to Harden/D12/Parsons, he would lead the league in assist.
