I said that Asik was the third best player of the roster, not that he was the third most important player on the roster. Asik is arguably one of the top 7 centers in the NBA. Parsons and Lin have yet to sniff that rarefied air. And if Howard goes down with an injury? Just imagine the pain if Asik is not on the roster. Has last years angst faded so quickly?
There was a time the Rockets had a team with some heart, but lacked even a below average center. There was Lowry, Martin, Budinger, Scola, Dragic,Patterson, Hill, etc. And Morey went to look for the center. And the best he could do was Jordan Hill and Thabeet. Morey said it flat out. In this league centers are expensive. With so few real center in the NBA, why would the Rockets do any favors for anyone? Stay dellusional Morey. That means you are making them sweat. Because teams know that having a legit center simplify team defense a whole lot.
I would hold on to Omer but the problem is that he is a ticking time bomb with his persistence to start. We are just containing him right now and hope that we can get equal value in return
The FO and the coaching staff are going to have to make that decision. The Rockets made Asik a very wealthy man, and I imagine that he will be a professional about the matter. Besides if Asik throws conniption fits he is negatively impacting his future earnings. We as fans can only hope for the best.
A top lottery pick would be asking for too much but in the draft coming up there may be still good players to be had from 10-20 and obtaining one of those may be possible. And never know _ if the Rockets hold onto Asik and he plays well his value may increase. Asik may want to be traded but I don't think Morey is in a rush to trade him this season especially when they need him. If Asik learns to catch this year his value will go sky high..
Not sure if we could get equal value for him if we don't trade him this season, next year he will get 15 million for just one season and that's a lot of cash,I am also sure he won't resign with the Rockets unless we wanna pay him. But Morey knows what he is doing
Who is a good defensive center willing to play back-up minutes? Unless we get one in return, I think Morey will hold on to Asik. We need to see how far we can go into the playoffs with this current group first before we look to unload him. I also think all these early injuries to Harden and Lin will show the FO just how unpredictable a player's health is during a long season. That's why Dwight is doing all these pre-game skits LOL to let Asik know how much of a team guy he is.
If Asik is still around playoff time, and we have a deep run, he may decide winning is more important than minutes. Asik surviving December 15th and the February trade deadline seems remote. Winning in the meantime could help matters though.
Third best player on the rooster? What on earth are you talking about? Asik might be a top 7 defender but definitely not a top 10 center. Asik might be a top 15 center. But wow, that's only because C is the weakest position in the NBA.
Dear NBA General managers, Morey is not trading Asik for a bag of Doritos and a second round pick. Deal with it.
Yea, but his trade value is deflated when there is a center out there like Hawes who may be available on the trade market as well and he isn't owed $15 million next year. Plus Asik has very limited offensive ability so the team trading for him would more than likely have to have enough offense to support having him in the starting lineup which would deflate his trade value even more if the team doesn't.
Hawes will be a free agent at the end of the season. He isn't owed anything next year. I don't think you know of what you speak.
I wish we had access to the specific trade proposals that at least one GM is calling delusional. As it is, its all guesswork to what Morey is actually asking for.
Of the offense, defense, rebounding triumvirate, offense is by far the least important as a skillset for a center, with defense far and away the winner. It's because as a center (or in some cases pf), you're the only guy whose routinely called upon to guard every opposing player at the location where their shot %'s are the highest. On offense, the ruleset highly favors wing players, post offense these days is basically only just catch and go, and dodge the flops. Having all 3 is a +++++ luxury, but Asik's one-way skillset is way more valuable than say Pekovic's one-way skillset
It honestly depends on how you look at it. For centers, I value D and boards far more than O. For that reason, I consider Asik a top 10 center, possibly top 5. This is of course, not counting PF's (Duncan, Davis, Bosh, ect) that some other people seem to enjoy tossing in to try and discredit our Turkish Delight. Personally I would only put Howard, Hibbert, Gasol, and maybe Noah ahead of him. I consider Ibaka around the same level. Bynum would be before him as well if he was not perpetually injured. Chandler might be ahead too, but he is currently injured and pretty old now.
xRAPM and every other advanced stat other than PER disagrees with you. Stats or your lying eyes dude?
