Since Jones has been starting at the 4:

Offensive Rating: 116.8 (#1) (#2 is Miami with 109.0. So first by a big margin)
    Defensive Rating: 101.6 (#12)
Net Rating: 15.2 (#1) (#2 is San Antonio with 14.9)
True Shooting Percentage: 63.9% (#1) (#2 is Miami with 59.9%)

    Pace: 96.38

Before Jones was starting at the 4:

    Offensive Rating: 103.9 (#5)
    Defensive Rating: 100.2 (#11)
    Net Rating: 3.7 (#9)
    True Shooting Percentage: 56.4% (#4)

    Pace: 100.94

Looks like the pace has slowed considerably... and the points per possession has increased a lot. They are hitting their shots now that they were missing before.

What could be the possible reasons?

    - Jones spreads the floor more leading to more open shots?
    - Less ISO, more passing? Assist % has gone up a good bit, too.
    - Players just getting hot and hitting shots?

    What do you think?

It´s not just Jones - guys like Garcia and Brooks are hitting way more shots. And I guess you could make a similar thread about Brooks.

But Jones plays a big part. His defense is phenomenal, he plays great of the ball offense and he is hitting his 3s. Spacing is better, more garbage points, harder to penetrate the lane. So far he has been everything we need out of a PF. Let`s hope he can keep it up.

Jones play has took us to another level, but he is not the sole reason for our %s getting better. We couldn't hit anything at the beginning of the season. If you don't believe watch the Cats amd Jazz games where it was NOT the spacing which prevented us from having better %s from the floor.

Jones is quicker and a huge threat around the basket, be it lobs or dribble attack jump hooks. He runs the floor harder, which creates open lanes for our bevy of penetrators. Everything he is doing right now is giving our shooters about a foot more space to shoot, which is a night and day difference for shooting percentages.

    In other words,

We have found our starting PF.

(Not to mention he hass fantastic defensive hands around the rim...)

    - finally learned to lob the ball

-better spacing has given Dwight more time in the post, which leads to better post ups or kick outs

-Omri, garcia, CP, brooks, got hot

-opponents stopped hacking dwight so much, so they're getting 2 and 3s and not 1s or 0 points

What is different is that Jones can shoot, so you are not playing 3 vs 5 on offense, and he is pretty good on defense too.

As I said before the year, on this team ASIK is redundant.

    This.

Brooks is shooting at an insane percentage. And Garcia's shot is coming around in the past few games, so is Casspi's and Parsons's.

And Jones is clearly a better offensive player than Asik. He's also hitting his 3s at insane level (47%).

I predict that the hot streak will come down sooner or later. But the offense is clearly better with Jones in the lineup.

What is unclear is how much it affects the defense. From the OP's numbers, the team defensive number is slightly worse with Jones.

Asik may be redundant on the first team, but he is invaluable to the second team and the team as a whole. At times he has played better defense than Dwight which led to Mchale keeping him in the game.

I know you don't think Asik is a scrub, DD. But the way you word it, it's as if you think Asik is garbage and should be cast aside as soon as possible. Sometimes I think people here would be happier with a Jermaine O'neal or a Dalembert as the second string Center.

    Strength of schedule?

But yes, Jones is just a better fit compare to Asik. Weird that Rox is playing slower thou.

I think you meant to say 4 vs 5, unless you're saying Jones fills two offensive positions at once

I like him but he will not be able to defend the better, taller pfs in the league and we will see the same nightmare of last season where Aldridge, Gasol etc were going off on us.

I think that Asis is a good defensive center and if he was happy with 12 mins a game, then keep him.

That being said, I think the team would be better served trading him and going with Camby as a defensive center when he gets healthy and DMo as an offensive center.

I don't value Asik at all on offense, the guy can't make a simple catch - he is great on D - I prefer two way players at all positions.

The Rockets have very few two way players. The Rockets need a good defensive backup center to match the offensive players. Camby isn't healthy. Motiejunas isn't defensive.

I do agree with Asik not being content forces the Rockets hand some, but I don't expect Asik to be moved until they have his role filled either internally or externally.

100% disagree that they need 48 minutes a game of defensive center presence, I prefer a contrast by replacing a defensive player with an offensively oriented one to give the enemy different looks.

Camby is very likely done for his career. Chronic injuries and old age

Trying not to get too excited, but that win last night makes it hard. Rockets clicking on all cylinders.

Not only did starting Jones improve the 1st unit, but the 2nd unit anchored by Asik has been a beast lately. Nice having 2 guys that started on a good team last year coming off the bench for you. Too bad one or both of those guys could be on the way out of town sooner or later. The 2nd unit is like a poor man's version of the starting unit which is cool to see. Howard, Harden and Parsons to Asik, Lin, and Casspi...or Asik, Brooks, and Casspi at the moment. Maybe when Greg Smith gets back he can be the Terrence Jones of the second unit. Garcia and Beverley are the offensive or defensive specialists for either unit.
