I'll always respect what Bill had to say about McGrady during that Toronto game. Said straight up the guy was giving no effort and shouldn't be on the court.

I think he's gotten a little more silly and overzealous this season but he's the home town color guy, what can you expect. Watch a game while you're in San Antonio... it's insufferable. Just listening to them you'd think the Spurs have never committed a foul and every time they score it's because of surgical execution of the best basketball system ever devised.

Anyways... I think Bull balances him out pretty well and Clyde just says the same stuff every game.

used to defend the crew, but after watching some league pass... i could see bill going. needs to be more professional. i understand homerism and they aren't national announcers, but it's just too much.

U know its bad when people prefer to listen to away team broadcasters on leaguepass for every game...
The misinformation and corniness these guys bring is intolerable.

You know, before I was able to listen to other broadcasters, I've always gotten annoyed at Bill seemingly not doing his homework on opponents. Stuff that even I was know from checking out stuff on the internet while taking breaks at the office.

But now that I've listened to a ton of opposing announcers, it's pretty obvious that Bill share this same trait with most announcing teams in the NBA. There are definitely some exceptions. For example I've always liked the Nets and the Knicks announcing crews. But most of the time the local guys know very little beyond their own teams.

Personally, my favorite upgrade would be having a JVG type for color. Perhaps we can sign SVG to a contract that places him on our announcing team, and stipulates that he gets the HC position whenever McHale retires. :)

Ridiculous thread. Bill Worrell is a Houston legend and should be allowed to stay as long as he wants. He deserves respect as he is the longtime "voice" of Houston sports. He IS Houston Rockets basketball. Sure, he is biased, but if we are all Rockets fans then how is the homerism a problem??? His commentary make the games more enjoyable to watch, in my opinion. Just embrace it and enjoy it while it lasts.

And how can you not love the "OHHHHHHHH!" after a Rocket makes a big time play like hitting the game winning shot or throwing down a vicious slam?

H and H baby, perhaps the worst catch phrase in the history of sports commentary

I've always liked Bill and respect his play by play. I like the fact that he's a homer...but in moderation. He goes overboard. I especially dislike all the whining about bad calls. Having watched a lot of league pass and listened to other commentators, our crew seems to be on the unprofessional side of the spectrum. Between Bull's overall lack of talent, Clyde's tendency to say something ignorant and inappropriate, and Bill's incessent whining over poor calls, it's simply a test of endurance to listen to the Rockets' telecast. When league pass on my iPad actually gives me a choice of telecasts, I'd be lying if I told you I don't think twice before I hit Houston.

I agree that he's got to cover up for Bull and Clyde a lot, but I've been enjoying Bill less over the last couple of seasons.

i rarely hear him add anything to the broadcasts. it's almost like he's just another fan watching along, who happens to be mic'd up. van chancellor and calvin murphy were far more insightful and a hundred times more 'colorful'

because if you watch other commentators, you'd know how bad ours are.

in fact, go watch any game stream with commentators other than boston's, you'd see. though I'll say this...

    Clyde > Tommy Heinsohn

    No way.

Rockets need more homerism in their broadcast, not less. Bring back Calvin and unleash HomerForce 5000™.

Last year on League Pass, we always ended up getting Root Sports and their announcers whenever we played Utah. They are like the most boring announcers. They were so bad, my husband and I just can't forget them.

For the most part, we love the Houston Rockets threesome -- they're funny and entertaining and yes every now and then down right silly and stupid. They keep us up and don't bore the heck out of us.

I really don't think there are any teams out there that are fair and impartial.

Bill has always been a homer... however, I have seen more complaints about foul calls/flops/bad refs over the last few years from him, and it has started to effect the enjoyment of the game.

I think the key was in the past, Calvin used to be the one to complain, while Bill could be the "straight man"/devil's advocate. Now-a-days, Bullard does more of that, while Bill gets to assume the Calvin role of "crazy homer broadcaster who is more for entertainment."

I would not mind it if Bill would admit when our players are flopping. It's very hypocritical to go from criticizing the other team on one play for flopping and then labeling anything against our team as a blatant foul.
