We knew the last 3 games Harden wasn't in the lineup. Why is Bev starting over Brooks?

We scored 110+ points.... Don't care if our point guard has 2 assists or 22... Our system won't give point guards huge assist numbers.

Can he score 16 on 5 shots?

Says who? Did Lowry and Dragic get good assists under this system?

Didn't Lin avg pretty decent asts last year playing next to Harden.

Tonight Harden wasn't playing and Bev was the starting PG who logged 33 minutes.

Why did he only get 7 points and 2 asts when he was the floor general with no Harden and no lin?

Will most NBA head coaches want to start a rookie with the worst stats in the league as a starting PG over a proven vet like Brooks who is still young and has proven he can start for a NBA playoff bound team and avg 20 ppg

Dude -- are you slow, or are you pretending not to get it?

When Harden plays, he runs the offense in the starting unit -- which is the whole reason Lin comes off the bench now, since their playmaking skills overlap.

When Harden does not play, Lin starts in his place and runs the offense in the starting unit. You keep saying AB should start over Bev because he can play-make -- but Lin is the playmaker in the starting unit with Harden out. Same overlap you have Lin/Harden, you would have with Lin/AB.

I know you really don't like Beverley, but this concept really isn't that difficult to understand.

Ever consider that defense is a factor in someone getting fewer shots than they usually do?

But you explain better than most why Bev starts. Harden handles the ball and playmakes when he is on the floor and Bev provides excellent D. So Mchale starts Bev to provide better d while allowing Harden to dominate the ball more.

I do not agree with that philosophy because I believe you give the most minutes to the best players that provide you the best opportunity to win. And not starting Lin usually results in less minutes.

But there are times Bev provides the catalyst on D that gets us going and there are times Lin's decisions create turnovers and poor shoots.

There is no question Harden is the better offensive player and yet sometimes Lin gets his own at the expense of not giving it to Harden. For the most part Lin is a plus and overall the better pg for the team IMO but it's not an absolute.

So Mchales decision regarding Lin's playing time isn't an absolute wrong or right.

Yeah Beverly is a decent Defender. He is a defensive specialist. Why doesn't the rest of the NBA get defensive specialist and start them over proven PGs like Brooks and Lin who can score and run an offense.

Harden has an amazing year last year but guess what Lin led the team in Asts which the starting PG should even if he plays next to an offensive superstar like Harden.

Chalmers is the starting PG for the Heat. They have Lebron and Wade but Mario avg 4.9 APG.

Yeah you can not be the starting PG if you can't get asts and can not score and all you bring is you are a good defender against some pg but not all. Basically a defensive specialist is not starter quality especially when you know Harden is not playing 3 games in a row

Also, I know it fits your pro-Lin/anti-Bev agenda to argue that this win "doesn't deserve a pat on the back." But you may want to recall that we struggled mightily against the Jazz, Bobcats, Raptors and Sixers, all of whom have worse records than the Hawks. And we had the best center in the NBA, former MIP who still got it, up and coming good player in CP, plus Lin and Harden for those games. Dismissing a win because it suits your obvious agenda is silly, in light of the fact that we've struggled way worse against (and even lost to) way worse teams.

It seems like you are into making faulty arguments, so we can stick with that.

Jeff Teague has never made 0 field goals in a game so far this season, until he met Patrick Beverley.

Teague has failed to score less than 13 points a game once so far this season, and that was against the Heat. He scored 9 points that game.

Beverley's defense is so good, that he held the leading scorer of the Hawks to a mere 4 points. He made him play so bad, that the coach stopped playing him after 25 minutes.

Therefore, Beverley did the best defensive job on Teague than any other PG this season.

If you disagree with me, it's because you are racist against Lin and want him to fail.

Forget about Lin because his haters will just use that as an excuse why McHale is infallible.

Why is it there are so many good teams with superstars like Lebron and Wade on the team and we all know Lebron is basically their point forward yet a player like Chalmers does more than be a defensive specialist. He can dish out asts at a decent rate.

Beverly adds so little compared to a Brooks.

Or maybe Teague was tired on a 2nd half of a b2b and he only played 25 minutes.

I've seen superstars play below their par when playing a b2b.

    Ever think of that.

Bev the starting PG can only manage 2 asts with Lin and Harden out of the lineup and you are making excuses for him.

Bev statistically the worst or 2nd worst starting PG in the whole NBA and you are making excuses for him.

If Lin wasn't on this team ever think maybe people like you might wonder why not start Brooks or is that "racist"

I've explained the reason multiple times in the past couple of pages, and the poster directly above you just explained it in precisely the same way. The problem (for lack of a better word) is that you just don't accept the explanation -- which is fine. Chalmers is the Heat's primary playmaker. Of course he averages 4.9 assists a game... he should, as the primary playmaker.

Bev is not the Rockets' primary playmaker. That is Harden. Bev is not the Rockets' secondary playmaker. That is Lin. You can't compare our situation to that of other teams, because it isn't the same. Our franchise player is slotted as a 2 guard by the rigid position assignment the league uses, but he is much more of a combo guard who play-makes in the way a traditional PG would. If Lin (or AB, for that matter) started alongside Harden, they'd likely be doing what Bev does now -- bringing the ball up the court, dumping it off to Harden, and letting him run the plays while they spot up.

If you have two playmakers in your starting lineup and want to delegate those duties to only one of them, the franchise player will likely get the nod every time, despite his being designated as a shooting guard, rather than a point guard. Perhaps not "fair," but it is what it is.

In every aspect of his game Rafer Alston during his time as our starting PG was vastly superior to what Beverly is today.

Yet game after game, season after season we heard fans question JVG a vastly better coach than McHale why not start this back up or that back up

But McHale is immune to critic some odd reason. Yet his first season here we treated him like any other head coach of the Rockets and let him hear it when he had coaching flaws.

Interestingly, he was actually coming off a back to back when he put up the 16 pts. in 25 minutes.

    Next excuse?

Sugarland, you've got to tighten up. You keep saying this is about McHale, but it could not possibly be more obvious that it's about your disdain for Beverley. You're not even trying to hide it any more lol. I suggest you try jeremylin.net. You'll find way more people willing to join you in bashing Bev over there.

Or maybe Beverley expended all his energy on defense so he could not perform as well on offense.

    Ever think of that?

Or how about this, what do we need Beverley for? And which part of the game does Beverley specialize in? And what did he do tonight to the opposing PG?

Seriously, the only reason you criticize Beverley is because you want Lin to fail. People's dislike for Lin doesn't mean they should also hate his best friend Beverley.

Stop being racist against Lin, because you are indirectly being racist against Beverley and he isn't even Asian.

Chalmers is the Heat's primary ball handler and not Wade and Lebron. Get out of here and go watch some NBA basketball. Chalmers dribbles the ball and dishes it to Lebron just like Lin last year and Beverly this year.

But unlike Beverly Chalmers can get asts and LIn last year led the team in Asts above Harden.

Ever think maybe Beverly is not the best player to start at PG and maybe you have some bias which makes you think McHale's decision regarding PT is infallible.

Fans question whether Alston should start every game and Tmac was our Point Forward.

So who's the PG are you talking about? Harden or Bev? Don't tell me it's Lin... He's just the stop-gap of the team now between SG and PG.
