The truth is that Les, unlike McNair, demands results. If the Rockets flounder, he'll be replaced. It's that simple. In the meantime, chill out.
Totally agree with this. But will you make up your mind? On your original post, you mentioned: "I would argue they made the playoffs last year jumping from the 9th seed to the 8th seed because of the stellar play of Asik when the Rockets had no center for the previous 3 years" How come Mchale did not get any credit for that? While your bias gave Pop and Sloan all the credit even though they had superstars on their roster.
I don't think McHale is racist against Lin. I simply think he is a bad coach. Lin started all 82 games for the playoff bound Rockets. He has the potential and experience compared the Beverly to be a very good PG (Linsanity, how Lin started this season, flashes of greatness last season) People use the Jet vs Sam I am argument but it does not apply here. Kenny Smith was the one with the experience in the NBA = Lin has the experience compared to Bev who has only played a few NBA games Sam had the potential = Lin is the one with the potential not bev If Lin wasn't here and it was between Bev or another PG with a 19 PER and several years of NB experience and 100ish NBA starts guess who will get the minutes and the starter nod.
Rafer was an excellent ball handler and defender. His offense was spotty at best. People did not like him because he wasn't a good offensive PG and couldn't run the offense that well but he was vastly better than Bev in all aspects. Once we traded Rafer to the Magic he played a big part in them making the NBA finals. Rafer was attacked non-stop here. Bev and McHale gets immunity because of hatred against Lin.
Utah, Knicks all have worse PG than Bev IMO, but it's relatively subjective. When you put together a team, you have to think if they mesh well. We already have Harden as starter who can create and distribute. Bev is actually just a spot up. While Lin is defenitely a starter material, why waste his min camping at the corner when we can use him to boost our bench's productively? Seriously we pretty much have the best bench in the league right now with Asik and Lin. There are only handful of players to rotate in a game, bench players are half of the game. Just watch last Memphis' game.
Kenny Smith started because he was a great shooter with Dream on the floor. Sam Cassell was more of a slasher who wanted the ball in his hands. Oh, DOES THAT SOUND FAMILIAR? This entire thread is horrible, HORRRRRRRIBLE. An obvious Lin fanboy thread. And this coming from someone who does think McHale needs to be replaced but sure as hell not because of Jeremy Lin's potential all-star greatness being muted by McHale. My goodness.
Sloan got attacked even though he is one of the greatest coaches of all time and I say this hating on him and his Jazz. Great coaches matter. Phil Jackson won those rings. Yes he had superstars but what did those superstars do before he coached them? Coincidence the Shaq/Kobe combo won nothing before Phil or MJ is ringless before the Zen master. Anyways McHale is a terrible head coach. I hope he improves and if he continues to make so many mistakes as a head coach I hope he doesn't get immunity from critic simply because some see him as the one to keep a lid on linsanity.
There you go folks. This is really why Mchale is such a terrible coach. He doesn't cater to what the fans wants him to do. Has nothing to do with wins or loses, its all about ALL I WANT TO DO IS LIN LIN LIN
Kenny started because he was the veteran NBA starting PG who once avg 17 ppg it is natural for a coach like Rudy T to stick with the proven vet. Some wanted Cassell to start because he showed flashes of being a excellent scorer. Jeremy has both the experience and potential. Bev has nothing which is why he is statistically the worst starting PG in the NBA and the worst starting PG we had in recent memory.
It does have to do with wins and losses. He has a losing record as a head coach and has shown himself incapable of coaching D, having a good offensive scheme except Harden iso all day and night, managing PT, making adjustments to counter other coaches during half time, etc
the rockets were one of the youngest teams EVER to make the playoffs last year and to add to that they didn't even have a training camp together. How can people not understand how impressive that is they had to learn on the go how to work together with a team that had a starting point guard who hadn't even played a whole season, a shooting guard who never ran a team and started, and a center who was a career backup and getting his first crack at starting. Thats a huge accomplishment to the coaching staff. not to mention that we were two plays away from just about winning the series with okc... the perkins hold of chandler so he couldn't get a hand up on Thabo's shot. then the Durant shot that took that crazy bounce which wouldn't happen again if he shot it a thousand times. I think i'm going to just keep posting this till someone can actually make an argument against McHale and what he did last year that makes sense.
I could care less about overall record. I'm only looking at what he's done here. With this team. With these players. I rarely defend McHale but it's crystal clear why you're attacking him and I'm not getting sucked into that mess again.
PHULEASE!!! You have exposed your true agenda by bringing back Linsanity. Losing record? Unless I am missing something, were 10-5. If he is so bad at making adjustments then, why does he have a winning record the last 2 years. Or are you going back to using your convoluted way of cherry picking? Just in case you forgot: "I hope he doesn't get immunity from critic simply because some see him as the one to keep a lid on linsanity" BWAHAHAHAH!!!
