How did McHale become so untouchable on Clutch?

What world does the OP live in where he doesn't think McHale is being properly scrutinized???

Couldn't agree more with this. The constant b****ing and moaning about McHale and his treatment of X player has the GARM growing tired, and has quality posters drawing further and further away from the board on a daily basis.

By creating yet ANOTHER thread designed to release your inner angst on McHale(who isn't going anywhere till the Summer so deal with it... Morey & Les DO NOT fire in the middle of the season so shut it), you've managed to help contribute to what should be a happy enjoyable season with a winning team into a cesspool of negativity within this fan community.

I am not thankful for the contributions.

No Rockets fans have a "hatred" of J-Lin. It's only the perception of Lin supporters. I hated Stockton, Malone and Utah in general. I didn't care for many others in the league but wouldn't describe it as hate. I have NEVER hated any Rockets player or staff. For the record I'm a native Houstonian and went to my first Rockets game in '78.

Lin is a good guy and I don't see how anyone would hate him. Hate is a very strong word and should stop being used.

did you even read through his title? In what world does a multi-year "fire the coach" thread, a nickname of McFail, a thread dedicated to the posting images of the coach failing, repeated assertions of the coach being a racist, considered untouchable?

Heck, Mike Woodson only has one thread dedicated to his failing, and he has a team that actually sucks and plays in NY

I don't think many people are saying McHale is a great coach on the level of a JVG or PJ.

But certainly he's not as bad as many people making out to be, and I think he's a solid coach if not a bit inexperienced still.

"The persecution complex is strong with this one, I think. Yessss. Feel the force."

Me, I think Lin's being Asian isn't relevant. I just want him to play well. So far he has played very well. I will say I think McHale keeps him on a tight leash; if he misses a couple shots, he sits. Harden misses a couple shots? "Keep shooting."

I'll give McHale credit these last few games for actually "coaching". But he only seems to "coach" when he has no choice:

The Asik-Howard marriage needs an annulment? Play Terrence Jones. Oh, look! Jones doesn't suck.

James' foot is so bad he shouldn't be playing, let alone playing 40 mpg? I'll have to trust my bench, and they don't iso---hey, look! They don't suck!

BELIEVE ME, OP, no one's giving McHale a free pass. But he's nice, he gets along with the owner and the GM (which is generally a "Kubiakian" recipe for mediocrity), and so he'll be here until next summer.

Often in spite of McHale, not because of him. No way we should have lost against Dallas, Lakers, or Philadelphia. But he IS coaching better lately.

Were you the one who repped me (if so, thanks) in a different thread but in the note gave me a similar lecture about the "Mcfail" thing (if not, your opinion isn't isolated)?

While I was properly chastened to stop using the term, "Mcfail", while weak and overused, is less vitriolic than "McF***up". But it's been easier to just type his name while the team wins and the "God, our coach sucks" head-shaking dies off.

Now, when Harden comes back and McHale becomes the same pushover who lets Harden do the same 40-mpg, me-so-iso thing, and we go back to losing games by 2, 3, 4 points, after having a lead of 17....then this "McHale isn't so bad" thread will quickly die off and the "Fire McHale" thread will grow again.

Fingers crossed that McHale's learning to coach as these guys are learning to play together.

I'll be first to admit I was against McHale being the coach at first, given his track record as GM in Minny, but he's really grown on me. I love how he's a player's coach like Adelman, but is tougher and more willing to coach defense. He's got a charisma about him that I like. Plus he's not afraid to bench a starter for a bench player who's producing better. (See benching Lowry for Dragic)

I believe that you completely misunderstand the TT experiment. I was one that continually stated that it would never work, and I received a ton of angry responses from optimistic, ignorant CF posters. But I do understand why it was given every possible chance to succeed. Morey HAD to know if Asik could play along side of Howard ASAP. If not he was going to have to trade away his third best player. Morey now knows and the TT has gone away.

Harden? McHale has many responsibilities that takes him away from the day to day interactions with the roster. Media interviews, appearances at Rockets functions, meetings with Les and Morey, management of his staff (and since I have managed dozens of people at the same time I can tell you that it will suck the very life out of you and your productivity), etc. That is why McHale has what, five assistant coaches, four of whom Morey appointed. If you think that McHale does anything more than get a status update from his assistant coaches, the training staff and doctors you are sorely wrong. McHale is the exact opposite of dictatorial egomaniacs like JVG. Historically he has ruled by consensus, and in all probability that is what he does now.

X's and O's? None of us know the details. But we do know that overall in the NBA a timeout favors the defense more than the offense. This has been shown to be true over thousands of timeouts.

I suggest you reappraise your own personal opinion of McHale. There is no other coach that I can think of that I would prefer to lead this young and promising team. His primary job, as described by Les and Morey after his hiring, is to be a "Leader of Men". Damned good job Mr. McHale.

There are a few fans on here that blast McHale for his rotation, his treatment of Lin, and his in game adjustments.

Because Morey needed a "yes man" to help build this team.

I guess he is untouchable if you ignore literally all the criticisms and threads dedicated to him.

On topic though, McHale is bashed, dumped on, and criticized every. single. day. on this forum. In multiple threads. If we lose, he's the World's Worst Coach and it's on him. If we win, we did it in spite of him. That's the running narrative these days.

But you're in your feelings because people don't bash him more? Okay.

If you're feeling labeled every time you criticize McHale, it might have something to do with the fact that your ever argument revolves around Jeremy Lin.

I was functioning off of the Webster dictionary description of the term:

    : very white
: completely without fault or blame : morally pure
: consisting entirely or mostly of white people

But I may have inadvertently stepped over a boundary I did not understand.

I've never heard of the term "lily white" being offensive -- but it is so completely obvious that our team is not overwhelmingly white that I can't understand how anyone could think you weren't joking/being sarcastic lol.
