After tonight's game, it's clear that Asik is one hell of a player. He may not block as many shots as D12, but he may be a better team defender. He's a freaking boss in the paint.

I really don't see us trading him for Lopez etc...

He has more value. I see us getting another front court player or a perimeter defender + a pick. Asik is definitely worth it.

I think so...defense goes up with boozer and deng.... jones parsons and brooks coming off the bench.

boozer can concentrate on rebounds and being a 3rd option on offnese / cleanup.

Deng can hit 3 as good or better than anyone on the team and one of the better defenders in the nba

Maybe at some point get a back up center?

Overall Dwight is a superior Center, but Asik's positional defense puts Dwight to shame. Dwight's main advantages are his strength and athleticism (which are great).

However, against highly skilled post players and PnR defense, I'd take Asik in a flash defensively.

They could still work in tandem. I beg McHale to let Dwight patrol the paint and put Asik out in the pick and roll.

Defensivel we just become a lot better with Deng instead of Parsons and Boozer gives us a great defensive rebounder which we lack and a good low post scorer. That is a contender for sure.

Asik looked happy out there tonight. Good rebounding. I am looking forward to the Rockets dragging this trade request out as much as they can.

Considering the offers are Larkin and Marion or Lopez, I think it will be dragged out regardless of Asik's feelings.

I think rondo and ariza would fit like a glove here. Ariza could play 26 mins behind harden and parson. Rondo would be a huge plus because of his playmaking, defense, and floor command. The tos would go way down,no more 4th qt late shot clock violations either. If somehow they could get ariza and rondo, they would be on their way.

    1. WC teams won't be eager to help the Rockets.

    2. Morey won't be eager to trade for a player who's contract extends beyond next season unless that player is a legit star.

    3. The Rockets would need a big in addition to whatever else they get in exchange for Asik.

    4. No team will want Asik unless he can be a starter, because they know he's going to pout.

    5. Tanking teams will be less eager to trade for Asik for obvious reasons.

In the end, this is why Millsap seems most likely, because that trade clears every hurdle I just listed.

    Carry on.

wait it out until a fringe playoff team will give up their 1st for Asik (New Orleans perhaps?).

this upcoming draft is legendary. if we can get a pick in the 12-16 range + our own pick (hopefully in the late 20's) i think morey can find the "steal of the draft".

Millsap will fit in like a glove, but Asik will definitely be missed. Who will backup Howard? Smith is not a center and if he is playing center, you guys better be ready for the opposing team's layup drill.

At the end of the day, we need more Asik than Millsap with the way Jones is playing.

If Asik is gone, Morey will try to get a backup center in any deal, perhaps 3-way deal.

This team is still young, players are still developing. We've had some disappointing losses this year, no doubt, but we have a new group of players that are still learning to play together. Rome wasn't built in a day. T.Jones is looking pretty good in the minutes he's getting, he will continue to improve as the year goes on. Lin gets a lot of scrutiny around here, but I remember when Tony Parker was just getting started and fans in S.A thought he would be a disappointment, too. They thought he would never be able to shoot the ball well, and criticized him for this aggressive plays that lead to turnovers. Young PG's need time to get better, particularly when the roster changes as much as it has here in the last two years.

We have a good young nucleus of players now, this isn't the time to freak out over things. Turnovers will go down as player chemistry develops, team defense will get better with continuity as well. Despite all of this our team is still 10-5 and looking good in the stacked western conference. We aren't in win now mode, yet fans around here act like we have to win it all this year and if we don't we need to make stupid trades for players like Millsap or Rondo.

We need to try and keep Asik here, he's an important part of what we do. He protects Dwight which allows Dwight to play more aggressive when he's on the floor. One of Dwights biggest flaws is that he gets into foul trouble at times, well, Asik is insurance that protects us when that happens. We only trade if this guy cannot be happy here, and if he forces a trade it will be bad and anything we get back will be less than what he's really worth. Keep that in mind.

Our coaches need to do a better job of managing the team, making the personalities work, helping these guys understand their true value. McHale is the perfect guy to do this because he was a backup big man for much of his career, and he helped the Celtics win several championships doing so. We have to hope that he can convince Asik that coming off the bench isn't a bad thing, sometimes the guys who come off the bench are the ones that end up finishing a game out, just like tonight against Memphis.

Who do we want that's on the Wiz anyway?

    Ariza and an unprotected 1st?

    Sounds okay, but... meh.

The hype on this draft is so out of control that I don't see any GM in the lottery range giving up an unprotected pick. A non-lottery pick is, on average, no where near worth it for asik. I think our best bet might be to pull a patented morey move and snag underperforming lotto picks from past drafts. I know that strategy hasn't worked out yet, but maybe we are due lol.

So what about Asik to Charlotte for MKG and biyombo? I haven't run the cap math but it works from a need perspective. We get a wing defender with upside and an energetic backup center who will be happy to play 15 minutes a night. Charlotte gets a stout defender next to Jefferson, who can slide to PF. Asik would also help support zeller. In addition, Charlotte might want to "win now" (relatively speaking) because the east is so wretched that they are currently in the mix for a top four playoff seed.
