Only by homers, if you ask me. I remember those games really well. There was legit good feelings during '04, a sense that we were finally on to something: 0.500 at the week 7 bye and 4-3 after it, it was far and away Carr's best season, Domanick Davis (Williams) looked like an emerging stud (1100 yds and 13 TDs), Andre's second year and first 1100 yd season, Defense holding its own, went into the final game at home against the 3-12 Browns with the anticipation of our first non-losing season.... ...and they absolutely mailed it in. No question watching that game that the pathetic 3-win road team wanted it more than we did. Texans looked like they were simply going through the motions so they could get out and on planes for family vacations. It was vomit-inducing. That off season was a compilation of Casserly's Greatest Blunders: Takes malingerer Travis Johnson in the first round (#16) Pulls the disastrous trade for matador defense Phil Buchanon (losing a second rounder in the process)....so that they could cut a still performing Aaron Glenn. Sharper also a cap cut that they had no means of replacing. Unless you LOVED Jerome Mathis as a returner, he pretty much whiffed on the entire 2005 draft. Atrociously. Really, shades of our past offseason(s) - losing key contributors for cap reasons, and failing to replace them. We were just about the worst defense in 2005, which was no surprise after cutting our best two defenders (and team leaders) and thinking that Morlon Greenwood and P-Burnt were going to replace them. On offense....I don't know for certain what happened. David Carr became insufferable, IIRC. Became a completely uncoachable brat and his bad habits became glaring problems (locking into one receiver off the snap, terrible decision making, trying to side arm sling across the line, etc). IIRC, this was the year Gary Walker chewed his ass out after Carr threw a horrible "F it I'm going deep" INC on 3rd down and had the gall to b**** back at the coaches when he got to the sideline. I also recall Kris Brown missing some late game critical FGs in unbelievable manner - he had a easy layup of a 31 yarder to force OT in the week 14 home game against the Titans....and it went sideways. I wasn't expecting much from that group...maybe 7-9 or 8-8 or at best 9-wins, but the 2004 finale left a bad taste in my mouth, I was worried about losing Glenn and Sharper, was perplexed about the Buchanan trade since he was already a bad joke....but I didn't think we were worst in the league bad. Same thing this year. I expected a 9-7 disappointment, not this nightmare.
I'll say this: If you don't fire the guy today, you're not firing him until after the season. I don't think that's a problem, as long as ultimately you're making a change heading into next season. I heard it said yesterday on sports radio that it's better to start firing now so you can get a plan going into the offseason. I don't know if that's true or not.
I remember Brown missing a few field goals in a late season game against the niners too. God that 2-14 season was brutal that year.
I'm not totally against waiting to fire Kubiak, but I am worried about the effect it will have on the locker room, if not the entire organization. I feel like Bob needs to do something now, in the interim, to show the entire world that there is a modicum of accountability and that it is NOT okay to lose 9 games in a row. Fire Marciano, can Dennison, demand Rick to cut Newton, force Kubiak to sit Reed. Anything, really. Get the loser mentality stink off this franchise as quick as possible... before it sets in.

I was told last week he was getting fired after the Oakland game. Only thing that makes sense now is that Bob is waiting for the end of the season. The firing is already in place. It just hasn't officially happened yet.
Not to interrupt you from your Casserley bashing, but I don't think you're giving him a fair shake. That draft, the Texans traded their 13th pick for the 16th pick. The 13th pick ended up being 2x pro bowler Jammal Brown, whom the Texans apparently passed on because he couldn't play LT IIRC. The Texans also passed on the consensus fan favorite Derrick Johnson, taken 2 spots later at 15. Also, the Texans traded a 2nd AND A THIRD for Buchanon. Yes, you left out that detail there and sold Casserley short there. We gave up 2 first day picks for perhaps the worst DB to ever be a starter for us.
