If the Texans are on the board, and Bridgewater and Mariota are gone, do they reach on a QB, like Manziel, or do they draft Barr or Clowney and pick a QB in the second?
Hell no toHundley, If no Mariota or Bridgewater, just draft Derek Carr and have him compete with Case next season.
Hundley will stay another year, i think Mariota will as well i think i think Derek Carr would be the pick for the texans lol
Bridgewater is like RG3 but not with the 4.41 speed, and a little better pocket presence i think Louisville kinda checked out once they lost to UCF, their goal was to try and play for the national title. I think Bridgewater will be great in the NFL.. especially on a team like the Jags or Vikings
Bridgewater didn't look good in their loss vs. UCF. Versus UH just looked OK. I'm not sold on him. and RGIII has proven very average this year
RG3 doesn't have that speed anymore... and if he does have a semblance of it, its not going to help him any more than his inability to hit wide open receivers.
Going back to the Bengals situation... they languished in mediocrity when they had said "franchise" QB in Carson Palmer... and have been consistently better after trading him away (along with building up the rest of the team around him). Palmer fit the bill of a franchise QB more so than any of the guys coming out now. I agree that if the Texans feel the QB available to them is a franchise-type elite QB, you take him... but enough things have to go right beyond that to ensure that he's playing at an MVP level for a winning team. Definitely don't "reach" for a QB just to try and upgrade at all costs.
Carson Palmer was mediocre at USC until his senior season. Further, he was never the same player after the injury in 2005, and declined even more after the injury in 2008.
Bridgewater looked great againist UCF lol, he led his team down the field with a nice drive and got a td with less 2 minutes left in the game( the defense let him down), its not his fault his running back fumbled the football in negative territory... doesnt matter though i think the Jags or Vikings will take Bridgewater, and he will excel because they have a defense and offensive weapons... unlike the situation RG3, Cam, and Geno were put into... a bad team with no wideouts
Seriously? We're going to lost at Jax, and we're going to end up with the #1 pick and take Bridgewater. He'll do great with Hopkins and Johnson
Bridgewater seems to be cold-blooded in the pocket and has played in a pro offense. I think you take a chance on him. While mobile QB's are extremely fun to watch, I'd rather have a Manning/Brady type of guy run my offense. Those QB's will win you games.
RG3 can roll out and throw on the run, thats a strength of his, he doesnt need his legs... (that was a myth). He has the arm talent to throw balls accurately, but he doesnt have the recievers or the o-line to do so... the skins as are most shanahan coached teams are run first. RG3 would rather pass... he needs a new coach, and their are multiple players on the skins that are washed up or practice squad players... thats partly because of the salary cap punishment they got in 2011. I just want a new coach to come in and spend that money wisley, trade Cousins for a decent pick... If im RG3 and Cousins is still on the skins after the draft( im asking for a trade, unless shanahan is gone)
If he's so good, why does he need a new coach/system? How come it didn't affect him as much last year? He's looked pretty mediocre this year... much like Kaepernick. This league is a b**** when teams actually prepare and game-plan against you to exploit your weaknesses (which RG3 does have)
Isn't that the model we just tried and flamed out with? Good OC (posing as a HC) and QB that looks good because of the system? Even with that, it only works if the defense, offensive line, and running game are elite. If any piece doesn't live up to expectations, the whole thing comes crashing down. The good QB / great OC combo gives you zero margin for error when building a team. The great QB option lets you fail in various other areas. Those earlier mentioned great QBs don't have great running games or O-Lines or WRs every year, but they consistently look good and their offenses consistently perform. And most have had multiple OCs over their careers, so it's not just the OC.
I have no problem with this logic... but I do have a problem with the potential QB's available this year at the top of the draft that people have penciled in as being the prototypical franchise player. Texans have to be #1 or #2... presuming Mariota is even coming out. Beyond that, I think it then becomes riskier to reach for a QB at #3-5. Even then, if somebody is willing to trade most of their draft to move up, you have to at least listen... presuming you have guys in charge that are competent enough to make those picks.
