I think also that this is an interesting idea. Chicago has to do something to reduce their cap burden. Otherwise they will become repeated offender. There one of their expensive contracts has to go. That combined with the sad DRose episode forces Chicago to do something. Portland would also gain from this I think. I doubt, however, that they will put their 1st rounder into it. Protection appears meaningless the way they play right now. How much do they value a late 1st round pick and how important is it to the Rockets?
I think Lin + Asik overall has more value than Deng + Lopez. I know we're getting Portland's first rounder in this scenario, but that doesn't seem like much and frankly we just don't value draft picks that highly in our current situation. I would rather give up just Asik + sweeteners to get only Deng, and keep Lin.
Name the other championship contending teams that have space for Deng...? Most of the elite teams has that position locked down. And how good do you think San Antonio's back up center is...? Beverley starts over Lin because Parsons defense is garbage. If they have an elite wing defender (which Parsons is not) Harden and Lin could start together. It's only so much a point guard can do on defense. Beverley is too short to guard SG and SF. And he has gotten lite up at that position by other point guards anyway. Deng can step out and guard positions 1-3... And Harden and Lin are on the court together plenty already... Morey finds point guards out of thin air. That's the one position he never has a problem finding. Beverley is an asset. And I can see him getting flipped before Lin.
Well, Duncan and Splitter will get all 48 center minutes when it matters. They might let some scrubs handle a few minutes in the regular season because they are just rolling through teams anyway. But come the playoffs it will be different.
we need to trade Harden for Love and and draft picks. trade Jones for shumpert Aski for Milsap Lin Shumpert Parsons Love Howard Beverly garcia Casspi Milslap/dmo Smith
No doubt about that... But I seriously doubt Morey is going to hold on to Asik for 10 minutes a game (if that) during the playoffs. Unless he feels we have a championship winning starting 5 in place and I don't believe we do IMO... And Smith and TJ can handle centers like Splitter on defense for a couple of minutes if not longer on the defensive end. That goes for OKC, GS, and the Clippers as well... It's not like those teams have beast at the center position in their starting or backup lineups (except for Duncan). And Camby MAY BE healthy by playoffs... Probably much sooner...
Would rather keep Jones - he's a nice player. But I supposed if we can get Love as well...lol at Milslap
Love defense suxks... TJ was destroying him the other night... And Harden and Rubio _ that doesn't sound good... The Wolves may not go for that. Harden for LeBron sounds better... I'm sure Miami will go for that...
Why only championship teams? You could have made the exact same assumption about Josh Smith going to a championship team and taking a pay cut "because he already got paid." Most players play for a pay day. He is worth a nice contract. Also nothing is for certain. Getting rid of Parsons for Deng could very well leave Houston without ANY SF. He could easily go to a team like Dallas (Dallas keeps making moves to stay competitive. This is exactly a move Dallas would make), Lakers (will be loaded with cap and Deng is a perfect second signing for a team like that), Cleveland (this could be that piece they need to get them into the top 4 in the East), Rockets (Rockets seem like an obvious choice) or just go for the money like Josh Smith did and get overpaid once again. No, Beverley starts over Lin because both Lin and Harden are horrible defenders. Parsons is an OK defender and a great defender when he isn't just focused on getting his offensive game up + playing loads of minutes. Getting Deng would put his defense back up to that "great" status because he will be highly motivated. That's how Parsons is. He assumes whatever role the team needs. Beverley is big and strong enough to do a fine job (better than 70% of PG's) on Westbrook, CP3, Tony Parker, Mike Conely,... Which, btw, is the position the PG should be guarding. Deng could NOT guard CP3, Westbrook, Parker the whole game. Maybe a play or two. But, NOT the whole game. Oh, and while he is guarding Westbrook, who is guarding Durant? Garcia the whole time? What if Garcia gets hurt? Also who is guarding Iggy, Clay and Steph? I guess Deng will guard all three. These are legitimate questions considering OKC, Clippers, SA, Mem, GS, are the teams we need to worry about. Only because Harden plays 50 minutes a game (obv. exaggeration). The minutes will have to stagger. CP3 lights up EVERY PG. Beverley is on one of the best contracts in the league for his role on the team, which is a very much needed defensive minded PG that has a respectable three. Can he be upgraded? Hell yes. But, why inconvenience yourself for a potential one-year rental by giving up Parsons AND Bev? All in all, I obviously REALLY want Deng on our team. But, I gave up Asik and Lin for Lopez, Deng, and a future first round pick. I do believe Asik + Lin > Lopez, Deng + future first round pick. But, trading those contracts are a little bit tougher and Asik is being used so little (in comparison to how good he is). My trade was just trying to think of reasonable, realistic scenarios that would helps us now and in the future. My ideal trade would be Millsap for Asik straight up. But, that's too obvious to post in this thread for me. The move I mentioned gives us flexibility and puts us two-deep at almost every position. It also gives Morey a little big of leverage (or options might be a better word) when it is time to re-sign Parsons. You can't just construct a line up together and think, "well, that could work." It has to be able to work in elite situations. We are not just trying to win games anymore; we are trying to win Championships.
Who said anything about getting rid of Parsons for Dang...??? I didn't. I think Parsons would be excellent coming off the bench as a 6th man and Deng and Lin can start. And Deng would be in the same contract range of what Iggy got and the Rockets can afford that. If not they would still have Parsons and Tony Snell (and a first round pick if they can get it) if he walks away (but I don't think he would leave). But if you guys think Beverley and Parsons are championship starting material _ OKAY...
huh? 2nd rounder anstead of Greg Smith also good enough trade. We are in win mode, so we are not really interested in drafting assets. Rondo/Beverley Harden/Garcia/Brewer Parsons/Casspi Humphries/Motiejunas Howard/Smith 2014/2015 year we have enough cap space to sign starting caliber PF, (Humphries FA) Sorry LOF's
Rockets Out: Asik Beverley Canaan Bulls Out: Deng Noah Pelicans Out: Anderson Rockets In: Deng Deng Bulls In: Anderson Asik Pelicans In: Noah Why Chicago does this: Their owner is cheap. D-Rose is injured again, and they basically move Deng, who they aren't going to pay in free agency, and the aging Noah for the younger, nearly as effective Asik, and pick up Anderson, who makes Boozer expendable. They can either amnesty Boozer, look to send him out in another trade, or drop him in free agency. They'll also pick up a good defensive guard in Beverley, and a young up-and-comer in Canaan to develop while D-Rose is out. Why New Orleans does this: They pickup a good defensive center to do the dirty work so Davis can thrive as a face up four. If I'm New Orleans, I'd rather have Noah than Asik. Chicago will take Asik because he's young, cheap, and familiar with playing under Thibs, and they aren't in win now mode with Rose out again. Why Houston does this: Chandler Parsons moves to the bench where McHale can take advantage of his versitility. He can thus focus more on defense and taking advantage of mismatches. Deng becomes the starter (and hopefully agrees to a modest extension) where he becomes our defensive glue guy on the wing and corner three guy. We've seen that he can take on offensive responsibility when needed in Chicago, but he'll be counted on mostly for his defense as a starter. We send out Beverley and Canaan, but still keep Lin and Brooks. Between the two, I prefer Brooks to start, since he knows how to get the ball down in the post from his time playing with Yao, and he can hit the three consistently. Lin gets to stay on the bench, and will see a lot of minutes at the two, with Brooks at the one and Harden at the three.
I like this... Except for the fact that Chicago doesn't need Anderson and his contract when they have Taj Gibson who is better than Anderson... Maybe you can switch Anderson with Ben Gordon or Tyreke Evans...
Holy crap. You just proposed a trade of Asik, Lin, and T. Jones for Kris Humphries and Rajon Rondo. Pass the pipe bro.
