The Lakers forum is talking about $24 million a year but I can't tell if that's just a guess or what.

Someone also wrote this (he is assuming they're getting Melo):

Kobe Melo Gasol are copying Wade James Bosh but our trio is better. Kobe is smarter and more of a killer then James Melo is better then Wade and Gasol is better then Bosh. Expect around 15million per year.

    Ah, so much fun.

If Kobe really is signed for the max, you can bet the Lakers to be mediocre for the next two years.

I guess its good for the lakers in theory of loyalism. I wish Hakeem never went to Toronto, but the smart thing is/was letting your franchise player walk when its time. Lakers screwed the pooch on their flexibility, especially if he continues making max out even near max money, although i guess 10-12 would be reasonable. I wonder what kind of details like player/team options, or maybe a no trade clause.

You have got to be kidding me. Max/max money? Lakers are dumb and done for sure. No more powerhouse for the foreseeable future.

After renouncing the Rights to pretty much all of the Lakers except (Nash, Sacre, Kobe) the Lakers should have around 23 million to spend in free agency. That would mean they would have to renounce Gasol, Jordan Hill, Henry, etc.

Even if the Lakers make a big splash and sign a max free agent like Melo, they will have next to nothing to spend on any players other than that one player. More than likely every other player on the team will need to be making the league minimum.

If I was a Lakers fan Id be very concerned about the teams future. Luckily I hate the Lakers so this is good news for the Rockets and other teams in the West.

Now the pressure on Kobe to be great is even bigger. If LAL can't contend, this contract will be cited as a big reason why.

Well... Under the CBA he could have made $65MM+ over the next two seasons, right? So I guess he gave them a discount hah

Wow, Kobe took a 7 million dollar/ year paycut and is still the highest paid player.

That is less than his max, but yeah, that is a lot of money for an aging player.
