Morey is going to get the best asset that he can get his hands on in any trade scenario, regardless of position or whether it's a current player or a future draft pick or some combination of both.

 

History suggests that this is the safest statement to make. haha.

 

Don't forget Camby,possibility he's our back-up C as the plan was from the start.

 

Rondo?

 

At this point, Rondo may be the best asset that can be acquired. Might not be the best fit but he's a superstar nonetheless and his acquisition would mean we are big time players in 2014 free agency.

 

Rondo isn't that attractive an asset because of the emergence of solid pgs in the league, his inability to shoot, his locker room cancer rep and most of all his large contract. Almost eveyr team in the league already has a solid pg, a guy like Rondo would be hard to flip for assets.

I don't think you can say we're gonna be big time FA players anytime soon as we have Dwight and Harden making the max, even if yo do have caproom you have to use it on the other roster spots rather than a 3rd max guy, unless that guy happens to be Love or KD.

 

Rajon Rondo is a superstar.

Rajon Rondo is on less than a max contract.

He would make us players in 2014 free agency because of these factors.

 

-locker room cancer is most overrated statement in NBA if that was the case, why we're teams chasing basically begging Howard all summer to play for their team & pay him $22,000,000 and he had the biggest CANCER rep in the NBA ?

- someone teams actually want the BAD GUY on their on team, that likes to win and won't take no slack

- rondo is not a max player he makes $11,000,000-$12 the next 2 years

- 2015 is when love and LMA or free agents, and that's when asik, Lin, rondo, parsons contracts are up & the cap is expected to go up $5-6 mill that would put us at $21mill to spend.

 

What about Batum?

 

I can only hope we swing a deal for Rondo. This team is in dire need of a legit point guard to take the ball out of Harden's hands. Plus our turnover margin is a joke. If Morey were able to swing some sort of Asik, Bev, Dmo deal for Rondo then that would be amazing. That said I don't know why the Celts would trade him unless he just completely hates being there.

 

Must hold firm for now. We need to continue to wait and see if Jones is just having a good fortnight or if he can continue this production when opposing team start to plan for him.

Is Jones the future 4, or is he the key to getting a Bosh/Love/Aldridge/Horford type.

I think the days of having a big 3 are over, so I hope we can find a way to turn Asik into Anderson, Ilysova or Milsap.

Maintain our depth at point guard and try to find a solid wing in the draft like PJ Hairston for example (6'5, 39% 3pfg in 12/13 season).

Rondo is an interesting scenario because it has the potential to work out great or poorly. He has won a Championship, good defender, tremendous passer. At his best a better PG than anyone on our roster.

On the other hand, he can't shot and seems to hate taking shots and the only way our offense works with these players is with spacing.

It is to early to make a deal now that Asik seems to be content with at least playing until he gets moved.

 

Won't extending Parsons wreck our 2015 cap space? Is is possible to extend Parsons and still sign a Love/LMA to a max deal in 2015?

Have to think positional needs become a factor if we are contending this year, which Morey says we are. Best asset in a vacuum and best asset for this team to win a championship this year are not necessarily the same thing.

If we are trading away Asik and not getting a backup center in return, that's a need that must be filled in the near term. Perhaps it could be Greg Smith or Camby or someone else, but it's still a concern.

 

Why is Rondo a superstar? Rondo's his first season as the main guy and while he's not exactly disappointed, he's also not really proved he's above being a star at this point, 13 pts, 10 assists, 5 rebs on 0.516 TS% when you're the main guy in the East isn't eye popping numbers, if you want an example here's JLin's numbers per 36:

18.6 pts, 5.6, 3.0 rebs, 0.645 TS% (WTF just realized Lin was beasting this year)

So really unless you're gonna say Lin is also a superstar I don't know how you can say Rondo is a superstar. You can probably argue he plays good D but then again D for a pg is almost next to useless, yes Rondo's a good defender but only compared to guys like Chris Paul, Steve Nash, Steph Curry etc...at 6'1 he won't be as effective guarding guys like Harden (6'4), Parsons (6'8) or KD (6'9).

Regarding the 2015 capspace or whatever, it doesn't really matter whether you trade for a contract or not because Asik and Lin's combined salary is already enough for a max contract so I don't really understand how that makes us players with Rondo. Personally I doubt we'll be players anyway, with Harden and Howard in tow I don't see another max FA a huge priority, unless that guy happens to be Love or KD, and if we do get those guys it'll probably be in a sign and trade, Minny or OKC won't let them leave without assets in return.

 

Ainge is a gigantic liar, but he does keep saying they're gonna keep Rondo and add to him.

Unless we gave up Parsons and Asik and whomever...

Or (gasp!) Harden (which won't happen, either, even if they added their highest 2014 first rounder)...

I could see Asik and maybe a Player We Don't Play for Humphries (expiring) and one of those many 1st rounders that Boston has for 2014. Any other deal? Doubtful.

If Howard were Rondo's main target, those extra 4 or 5 assists per game would be huge.

And he actually D's up on the perimeter.

Not that we're getting him. Just saying.

 

Well saying we're contending this year is a good PR move but honestly you really expect a team just assembled this year to compete for a title? I think getting the best assets is the best course of action no matter what combination it is. If we can maximize the return on Asik then we can use those resources to fill up whatever need we may have, we don't really know if backup C is the biggest priority, before the season started everyone said we needed a starting PF and now Tjones comes out of nowhere to make that need obselete.
