I was wondering where this Gillian story line was going and glad to see she got what was coming. This has been a really good season with a lot less Margaret to detract from the story.
No way Eli lives. He won't make it out of this season alive. Reminds of when Nucky had to kill Jimmy.
I hope it means no more Gillian tbh, I would fast forward thru her parts because I really didn't care for her.
This is a Chekhov's Gun situation with Margaret. Maybe they are saving that angle for season 5, but her brief presence in this season has been completely unnecessary. Great series, but must there be a constant negative cloud. Did they really have to make Gillians character do almost a complete turnaround before giving her her much deserved comeuppance. Nothing positive can go unpunished in this series. Would have been much more satisfying had she been a b***h throughout. I'm actually rooting for Eli's idiot son to get killed.
I still have no idea how Margarets storyline connect with the larger story, but I havent really been annoyed by it as her scenes are few and short. Totally agree with your last two points though. I didnt like feeling sorry for Gillian or empathizing with her this episode only to then see her get crushed. I'm not sure I even enjoyed the comeuppance I once would've so relished... but perhaps that was the point? Not sure, but i dont like it lol. Agreed about Eli's son, didnt like him or his entitled attitude in any episode this season. What a little prick. Lastly, this seasons been pretty damn entertaining, much better than last imo.
as far as gillian it was starting to smell funny when she came in on that conversation he was having on the phone, i was pretty glad to see her get what she got, sad life for gillian but she has made some pretty ****ed up decisions as an adult i like margaret i guess i'm in the minority this season has been awesome but season three was also really good, gyp rosetti has been my favorite villain thus far
I never really felt bad for Gillian, she earned her punishment a longtime ago. I liked Margaret as well, until the last 2 seasons and she got SOA Tara syndrome. These past 2 seasons have been really stellar IMO.
I felt bad for Gillian, even though she was a coked out murderous incestual psycho...I mean, she was raped and wifed as a girl, who was looking for real redemption. Best historical fiction I've seen on tv...and considering that they've been pretty true with depicting who lives or dies, it's taking a lot of restraint for me not to wiki the lives of Rothstein, Masseria, Luciano, Lansky, Torrio, and the guy who inspired Narcisse. I think I'm gonna cave.
Margaret has been much more bearable this season. But her character continues to be flakey. You had a problem with your husband being in the crime business, but here you are making a shady deal with Rothstein for insider trading tips. Hypocritical, much?
That's the main thing that really turned me against her a few seasons back when she kept bring the high and mighty attitude.
Did anyone else think that the Gillian being caught sequence was too fantastic? They knew that she would confess to killing the boy if her lover killed someone? They knew that she would confess to him at exactly that time and were waiting behind curtains and the like? I know it's television.
The staged murder was always the endgame, so they didn't have to follow her until that, while he tried to get her to confess. Certainly unlikely, but given some of the things you see not that far fetched.
That's it, I'm out. No season 5 for me, killed off one too many characters. Not a sliver of positivity from this show. I don't need sunshine and lollipops but one happy exit isn't too much to ask.
I'm guessing Richard bites it. F'ing A. That little **** Eli's son better not live if this is the case. Killing off good characters to make room for bad ones, wtf.
Spoiler It was difficult to watch this episode knowing what was going to happen to Richard. I always rooted for the guy and really wanted a happy ending with him and his wife raising Tommy. A lot left open for next season, it should be interesting.
