hm. well I'm not so familiar with the Bulls - but I always thought Deng was an important piece of them. I don't know how well Butler is playing. but yes they do need a PG that can run the offense. All the LOF will move to Bulls boards to spam.

if TJones keep growing like this, Bev will soon become the weakest link in starting lineup. 1st option to upgrade the team is bring in a star PG who can force Harden to give up the ball early and focus more on finishing. Asik+Bev+DMo+14' 1st pk For Rondo+Faverani is still my favorite trade.

if we can't get a star PG before trade deadline then maybe use Asik to upgrade the bench for now:
    Asik+Brewer to Denver for Mozgov+Wilson Chandler+option to switch 14' 2nd rd. pick
and then maybe DMo+Smith to NY for Shumpert and bring Camby back later on:

    Howard, Mozgov, Camby
    TJones, Casspi, Covington
    Parsons, Chandler, Garcia
    Harden, Shumpert, Brooks
    Beverley, Lin, Canaan

Houston receives: Loul Deng and 2014 first round
Sends out: Jeremy Lin and Chandler Parsons

Chicago receives: Jeremy Lin and Chandler Parsons
Chicago Sends out: Loul Deng and 2014 1st round pick

parsons is worth a number one pick next year.

bev and brooks would become out 1 and 2, with canaan still in the d-league

and now we have asik and Chicago's 1st rounder as trade bait.

Come on guys, Deng is a top 5 SF, lockdown defender who can defend anyone. Kobe, Durant, Lebron, Carmelo, K-love, basically all the stars. He is PROVEN

The biggest concern is what happens if Deng does not resign? We also significantly reduce our bench power by trading away Parsons and Lin and only getting Deng back. So, it might end up being Lin and Parsons for a ~#25 first round draft pick. Is that worth it? Also, are you sure we own a pick from Chicago?

I know this is coming from a guy who just traded Asik and Lin, but we ended up keeping our bench pretty strong with Lopez + Chandler + Brooks + the three-point gang.

Aaron Brooks chose Houston for his family. He is a humble bloke who puts his family before his own aspirations. His daughter was tired of moving around, being apart from daddy & changing schools etc.

He could've signed a larger deal elsewhere, in the range of $4-$5mil, but chose H-Town.

    Just saying.

That's an interesting idea. I like it.

Just a side note, keep in mind that the Portland pick would be distant, they can't trade one the next few years. Ideally the Rockets would then flip that pick (alongside with other picks/assets if necessary) for a cheap scorer off the bench. Maybe Will Bynum or someone similar.

you may think he is a career role player but I doubt bobcats front office is willing to concede that after just one year after selecting him 2nd overall

Where else is Deng going to go...? The Rockets can sign him for Iggy money. Championship contending team (with him on it) in a no state tax city may be hard for him to walk away from. I think Smith, D-Mo, and TJ can handle backing up Howard. If the team gets stronger on the perimeter that would help so they won't get murdered when Howard isn't on the floor.

Maybe Asik and Beverley for Deng and Tony Snell. Chicago can't be picky when it comes to trading Deng since he's a free agent and may walk at the end of the season anyway. Would be great if Morey could get that 1st round pick from them as well.

My opinion, Rockets need a solid SG backup fro J Harden. Garcia is great, but only as a spot shooter.

Again with the suggestions for a trade for a backup SG. Look at the boxscores. All 96 G minutes are going to J. Harden, P. Beverley, and J. Lin. Unless there's an injury or the game's a blowout. All of F. Garcia's minutes are at SF.

Smith, TJ and Dmo being a back up Center and championship contender just doesn't make sense.

Deng very much has options. He will be an unrestricted free agent. He can score and is one of the best defenders in the league. We aren't the only championship level team out there.

Then you go on to say that we should trade Beverley as well... and have the worst defensive back court in the NBA again? Beverley starts next to Harden for a reason. On top of that, he is one of the best bargains in the NBA.

Chicago is being pushed to the edge, but are not desperate.

One more thing, Asik will be moved, but the last place he will go is Chicago.

Luol Deng would be a nice fit. Who knows what Chicago will do now. The Bulls likely do not re-sign Deng.

Deng is not going to get Andre Iguodala money, IMO. He has made his max/near-max money; I'd look for him to get a deal for about four years, $40 mil from a championship contender. I actually think he signs with Houston if the Rockets have the cap space, and if they swap O. Asik and J. Lin prior to the Feb deadline for mostly expiring contracts (plus picks and prospects) then I think they'll have the cap space.

    Houston can do this:

    O. Asik to Portland for C.J. McCollom and Robin Lopez (expiring contract)

    &

    J. Lin and D. Motiejunas to Milwaukee for Caron Butler and a future Bucks first round pick

Let Lopez and Butler expire and I believe you'll have the cap space to sign Deng. So you'd basically be swapping Asik, Lin, and Motiejunas for a very nice young/cheap third guard in McCollom (MUCH cheaper than Lin), that future Bucks first rounder, and Deng. Nice haul! Keep in mind that you can distribute all 96 minutes at the two forward spots to C. Parsons, L.Deng, and T. Jones, each player would be getting around 32 minutes/game. So even Deng, coming off the bench, would be getting starter's minutes in this scenario. Distribute all 96 minutes at the two guard spots to J. Harden, P. Beverley, and C.J. McCollom, and all Houston needs to do (after signing Deng) is find a solid backup C, and their rotation for 2014-15 will be set.

I don't think Lin should handle the SG position in the long run. He obviously had difficult time against bigger opponents...

Not sure what DRose value to Chicago is now, but maybe this trade could slide.

    http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine

Chi: Omer, Lin (maybe Jones, DMo, or Chander)
    Bos: D-Rose
    Hou: Rondo, Green

Would be interesting, I am not sure how great Jeff Green is on defense. Also like I said, Chicago is loyal to DRose, but I am not sure how willing they are to wait a year and a half for him. Boston will love to wait and gamble on him.

Lin and Omer can't both go to Chicago - no chance of that happening. They didn't match Omer back then, certainly not going to pay two 30 million for these two.

I'm intrigued by Jeremy + _____ for Deng. Jeremy + Omer I think is overkill for Deng given Jeremy's play and the risk of Deng walking. Jeremy + Casspi for Deng might be interesting.

horrible list. Gay is crap, pierce is old and not on that level anymore, batum and leonard maybe but doubtful, iggy is debatable. i can see the arguement of him not being a top 5 SF but he is on iggy's level, above the rest you stated.
