There have been adjustments...only problem is that Reed/Merci cant get to the QB at all...I think we can do a better job of mixing up some blitzes, but you need guys that can make plays...and in this defense, the OLBs need to step it up, which they arent doing, at all.
The second play of the drive showed the playcalling failure. The screen pass seemed like such an obvious call, but the Texans reacted like they had never seen one before. So, a big sack was basically erased. I know there is a talent issue right now, but I think Phillips is pretty limited, too. Outside of Watt, I haven't noticed young players getting better in his system, either.
We are getting away with physical CB play. Hopefully it stays that way. Odds that Schaub enters the game at some point?
Well, that was the case even when they did have talent in the secondary and Cushing... and this defense continues to regress. Wade's schemes are pretty readable now, and unless he has super-human defenders like Watt or roided up Cushing, there isn't much this defense can do as a result of coaching. They can certainly do a better job of mixing up their coverage patterns and blitzes. Much like Kubiak on offense... once you stifle Wade's initial push, there's not much else he does to counter.
Soooo three drives against the JAGS and we have not gotten a single first down yet. Is Case Keenum the tank commander this game?
Keenum may not be the answer but it was unfair to think he would be the savior with what the Texans are trotting out there at this point. The o-line is swiss cheese and the overall team is just bad.
Even if Schaub doesn't play another snap? That totally makes sense. I believe Keenum should be the qb but let's not get carried away. He's just as capable of blowing a game as Schaub.
I've been thinking that might be the case. I think we saw the league start adjusting to him in the Arizona game. I'm holding out hope that he can adjust back. But Jacksonville has one of the worst pass defenses in the league. Even with the league adjusting to him, I kind of expected him to have at least a decent game today. If he can't get anything going against the Jags then it's going to be hard to believe he can be the guy moving forward.
Wade's defense has been susceptible to screens and quick slants for a while now. If the pressure doesn't get home, the man-to-man coverage in the back end will get beat (or not be in a position to help on the screens).
But he too is regressing... especially as defenses are starting to pick up on his tendencies. Its no surprise that he looked "better" in his first game (against a top ranked defense on the road) than he does in his 5th (against a bottom feeder defense at home).
The tank is on for Jacksonville. I think they realize oh crap we actually have a chance to win this and decide to not block anymore
Yeah most QBs would regress if they continuously are having to run for their lives, especially young QBs. Right now, I still feel he is the best QB on the roster, which isn't saying much. But before they get another young QB they have got to sure up the o-line, no doubt.
