NSA wanted Japan's help to spy even more in Asia. Japan said "uhhh, NO."

Seems pretty easy; wish others would operate as such.

Nope, but I think there's a little bit of the boy who cried wolf syndrome going on here.

And as usual, bigtexx shows that he doesn't give a **** about American security, or our intelligence programs whatever, but is more concerned with whatever can make the current Administration look bad. Rhad I know doesn't know better, as I guess he thinks espionage should be illegal or something like that. WE SPY ON THE GERMANS? No ****ing ****.

need to auto-post this every time texxx tries to get snarky about surveillance

Changed your mind, texxx, or is it just that the president's changed? Why aren't you willing to do "your part" for the "war effort" without complaning anymore?

    Fail.

Bugging Angela Merkel's cell phone and the Pope (?!?) are not tantamount to doing our part on the war on terror.

Is bugging the American people tantamount to doing "your" part on the "war on terror"? Or can you accept that but not bugging Merkel's phone for security purposes?

Because, you know, way back when:

but sure, wiretapping Merkel (authorized in 2002): the tipping point.

Glad you're on board, and you've seen the light. It only took eavesdropping on foreign leaders (but hey we all have our red lines, don't we?), but I am sure you are reconsidering your lamented position. Good.

You certainly don't need to put any snark into it though, it's probably for the "war effort".

A sweet moment: Merkel's rage at her phone being tapped, after her relative silence on NSA activities affecting Germany.

it was such a trolololol moment

I agree with you on this. (But the rage came after, not before.)

It's like...it's ok that you spy on my underlings, I don't care...wait wait...you're spying on me? You're evil! Don't do that!

yeah, true on the chain of casuality here

I don't know about the domestic reaction, but I imagine there must have been some people who were amused.

Sadly I do believe this Supreme Court making such a weak decision. They have the power to make lasting changes because we know that no president will. Too bad they passed up the chance.

Much of the current Supreme Court has shown a great deal of deference to the Executive in regard to national security issues. You are going to have to wait for another Supreme Court if you are expecting them to make major changes.

Like I said I totally believe this Supreme Court won't act. I just think it's a shame.
