It seems like Microsoft would have launched this thing to time with the release of a new Halo game. WTF is the exclusive game with this launch? Is there one?
Ryse? Forza? Don't get me wrong, Halo would be great, but that didn't make or break it for me... and Halo was the reason I got an Xbox 360.
Ryse, Forza, Zoo Tycoon, LocoCycle, Crimson Dragon, Dead Rising 3, The Fighter Within, Killer Instinct, Powerstar Golf, Xbox Fitness,
Neither system has anything particularly exciting to me at launch. Most everything that is good is available on PC already. I'll probably end up getting both systems eventually, but no rush with the current line up.
Probably Forza. It depends on the circumstances, but you don't usually see MAJOR titles at launch. They usually come 1-2 years later. Halo 3 was 2 years after launch IIRC. The next Halo game is supposed to be released at the end of next year I believe. GTA just came out on current-gen, and Sony is about to release their biggest franchise for PS3 (and not PS4) with GT6. So those franchises likely won't be hitting next-gen for a bit. It is hard to meet expectations with these IPs at launch. As good as Forza is, it appears to be lacking a lot of content compared to previous Forza games. You usually see new IPs at/around launch (Gears, Titanfall, original Halo, etc.), which generally don't have the crazy expectations (they trade content for something fresh/innovative generally). Plus those major games have huge budgets, and it is difficult to recoup that with the small userbase early on. Systems have generally sold quite well without anything really worth playing, so it isn't necessarily a bad strategy. You really start worrying about the lack of great games around the following Spring (assuming a November-ish launch), once the newness has worn off and the system is no longer supply-constrained. Coincidentally (or not), that's when some of the heavy hitters will be releasing for both systems.
Ok, the voice controls are freaking awesome...integrated my cable to my xbox and the thing works flawlessly. Not sure why all these reviews say that you get mixed results with it...Ive been using it for the last 15 minutes and we havent skipped a beat, except for one time when I tried to whisper it and it didnt pick up on my command. When you say "Xbox", you get a little notification on the upper right hand screen that says "Listening"...and thats when you say your command. I think people are just spouting off stuff when the Xbox isnt listening, and that's why theyre getting mixed results. Im incredibly impressed.
I think that's partly true. There's some videos of it not working (the uncut IGN video might be the best example), but as you said, it probably didn't pick up on the Xbox command, so anything said after that is ignored. Certainly, if you say Xbox and the listening icon doesn't pop up, there's no point in saying anything else. I'll have to review some of the videos, but I wouldn't be surprised if it wasn't listening during these situations. Of course, why it didn't start listening when they said "Xbox" is a potential issue. Presumably, people will assume it will start listening when they say the command, and won't necessarily double-check to see if it is listening (instead, they'll continue with the command).
I"m sure this has been answered a billion times here.... but, I'll ask again. Will they be making new games on the 360 platform at all anymore?
Yeah they will I don't know how long though but a few big games like titanfall will be coming to xbox 360
Nice. Looking forward to trying it out! Idk how often I'd use voice commands rather than just the Xbox controller but its good to hear
Yeah, I think there should still be a decent stream of 360 games coming, though it will dry up eventually. MS themselves have moved over completely I think, but you'll probably still see the usual multiplatform games for it. I think we'll probably still see most 2014 releases on 360, and we might still see some in 2015. Just speculating, but you don't give up on 80M customers that quicky. Hmm...checking this out: http://www.giantbomb.com/videos/quick-look-watching-tv-with-xbox-one/2300-8251/ It looks like it had problems even with the listening mode activated, and it seems to recognize commands even when it isn't immediately noted that it is listening, so I think people would expect it to listen even if the icon isn't display. I've noticed that in some of these demos showing off these issues, its seems like the presenter is even a little surprised at how poorly it is doing. Wondering if the capturing process is throwing in some interference, and/or if the presenter is a little nervous and says things slightly differently than normal (although all the commands sound fine to me).
Yeah, that's what Im thinking. It sometimes works when I go straight from "xbox" to the command...but Ive found that it helps to give a little hesitation. I think the bigger issue is having it pick up on the initial "xbox" command...and that might have to do with the mic set up at the beginning. Gonna keep messing around...if it can consistently respond to 90% of the commands on the first go around, then it'll be very good. If I ever have some streak where Im repeating myself half the time, then that will not be enjoyable.
