That's too limiting, this "role player" designation you're pigeonholing players in to. Of course he isn't a Knick, he's a Rocket, but watch the games and look at the chemistry he's had with Smith at several times last season and in limited times this season. Look at how he fed TJones in the Celtics game or that great pass he threw to Caspii that he didn't convert. Lin is still Lin, he still plays like Lin and shouldn't be so limited because DH and Harden are there. Lin played with Carmelo Anthony, a post and ball-dominant player, and still was able to at times elevate other players. That part of his game should be exploited, just like whatever Parsons can do, like how he fed Dwight in the game or the chemistry Dwight is developing with him when he's in the post and feeds a slashing Parsons to the basket, or D-Mo in limited time with his very smooth post moves, more elements should be added to the Rockets team to make them more diverse, less predictable, and also raise morale in the team because more of the players feel involved rather than it being the Howard-Harden show with others. That does not make the best Rocket team.
Lin has great chemistry with bigs, because he can play PNR and get the ball to them. TJones and Smith are hungry and are finishers. Dwight sits in the post so it;s just a dump the ball to him and let him do work, same with Harden. Pass at the top. Lin needs the ball to be effective. I have to admit that Dwight and Parsons play well together, last game DH made some really nice passes to a cutting Parsons and DH finished some nice alley oops. Lin works best with PNR and people who cut. Lin only gets limited minutes to be able to direct the offense. Other times he either gets the ball at the last second, or he can decide to shoot or drive (since he usually doesn't get a screen when Harden and DH are on).
I want Lin and Harden's minutes staggered. That's not my point. Others are pointing out thought that Lin and Harden can be a great tandom if they work out chemistry and they will spend a lot of the time on the court together, especially when both are playing well. So it isn't a 6th man argument I'm making, it's more that Houston should see that Lin is about chemistry with all of his team mates and since he is playing with all of them, he needs to develop chemistry with all of them.
cool man, its not about lin going to knicks you saw it that way, it was more about the rockets needs which are a strecth 4 (starter or backup), back up center and a perimeter defender. They have both players there and one is on the trade block. They have a bad record and need a pg & center until tyson is back and have showed interest in asik, so it was all about what players were available that could fit our needs here. Shumpert - is a perimeter defender Bags - is a good shooter mid range and from the 3. I watched him stop howard and hibbert so i have saw enough to feel like he would be a better at D than ryan anderson, paul, eran. no way any of them could stop howard and hibbert.
good post here!, smith and jones or lins best options to make him effective. Lins like to p&r and is very effective if you pick hard and roll hard with him those 2 guys will. Howard wants the ball in the post as his first option or just throw him a alley vs P&R (2nd option). At first I was not ok with that but after last game if he can do half of that and not turn over the ball he may have a point there. Parsons moves with out the ball, him and howard looked great together
Since were going back to memory lane.. Mchale moving to bench A perennial all star that accepts any role his coach wants him to do.
absolutely, Lin is the only natural passer on this team. He has a great feel for finding open teammates. Hell, he made landry fields and steve novak look like legit players. Unfortunately, the rockets have alot of players who mean well, but just aren't good passers. Harden, even with a decent amount of assists, is a scorer first and can stall an offense. Pat Bev, really unselfish and hustle player but isn't a natural pg. Lin, if given trust and free reign like under D'antoni will flourish both as a scorer and passer. On Houston, he's anxious about his minutes. You can almost see the tension with him when the ball finally finds him and he's deciding whether to score and get his numbers or make the proper basketball play.
It's chemistry. That's happened the last few games. Harden also has good chemistry with Howard and Bev too. But you still need Lin to have chemistry with those 4 because Lin will be on the court with all of them, especially late in games.
McHale already proved himself as a great player before going back to the bench. Lin hasn't completely established himself yet. That's a big difference.
It's a TEAM game. That trumps any individual desires. A great team is composed of individuals that places team success first before his own accomplishment.
You are comparing McHale to KC Jones, which is an insult to Jones. Under Jones, the Celtics was 1st in Atlantic division every year on his tenure. Won 2 championships, 2 final appearance, and 1 conf-final appearance. This Rockets roaster has enough depth to complete, but unfortunately it will not going to happen under McHale.
Rec that! He plays well, one camp shows up, if not, then the other camp. SMH! If you are true Rocket fans, then support them through thick and thin!
That's a cool illusion to have, meanwhile, these dudes got "all star clause" and "average more than 20pts clause" in their Nike and Adidas contracts.
NY would NEVER trade trash away, they collect them. They only trade asset away. As of right now, the only asset they have is Shumpert and they are going to trade him away so they can acquire more trashes.
I read on ESPN that Anderson is being considered for the most improved player of the year. He is turning in great numbers.Look up his numbers you will be surprised.
It's so self-centered to advertise about your guy all the time, especially if the reason you like him is because he somehow represents you. It boils down to "Me me me!" The real title of this thread is "I've Been Mistreated and I'm Still Hurting." OK, that's actually a better conversation to have than this fake use of Lin to represent whatever you want to talk about. I know it's not intentional. But this 33-page thread is about more than just a basketball game.
Aside from the last game ,you were seeing Linsanity. His PER was 19.64 before the Mav's game. This is his Linsanity PER and approaching all-star level. About 22 is all star level. He is currently ranked 11th among NBA point guards in PER. His TS% is 2nd for all NBA point guards , behind Prigioni. His WS ranking is among the top 15 point guards in the NBA. What people who follow Lin are concerned about is that for some reason many people can't recognize exceptionally good playing when it invoves Lin. You are the typical example. He was in Linsanity mode for quite some time before the Mavs game and you as well as others either could not see it, or took no joy in it.
