    One thing I notice in this video is that when he sets, he sets with the ball near his waist, and not up near his face. Here he is setting with the ball near his face:

    When he sets with the ball at his waist, he has more range of motion and it makes him less likely to "throw darts" like we see him do in games. Here is how most good free throw shooters set:

    Why does he change his form between practice and games?

    Practice is meaningless. Dwight is a mental midget, he will never lead a team to the championship as a #1 option (thank goodness for Harden).

    Another big difference is that he uses a lot more arc on his free throws in practice and not as much during the game. Much earlier in the season when he was clanking shot after shot, he was shooting his free throws flat footed. Even Calvin Murphy said something about it that game! If he can shoot this well on free throws in practice, why doesn't he ever shoot jump shots? I can't help but think that if he practiced some sort of shooting from that range, that it would help his free throws even better...

    Yeah, but Harden needs to learn when to pick his spots and not to constantly be forcing the action like he was in the 4th quarter against the Mavs!

    Not saying he's perfect or anything, obviously he can improve. But I think Dwight is pretty much a complete product, no point in expecting any more from him than he already is.

    Lol, that picture of Dwight that OP posted could have been taken mid-shot, when he's bringing it up to his shoulders, like he does in the video.

    No difference in form from what I saw, just all mental.

    at this point dwight is what he is as the FT line..its not drastically gonna change..practice is totally different than actually a real game where there's so many factors that can affect him.

    Very strange indeed. In addition to the different placement of the ball you mentioned, he also did not bend his knees when he shot the ball in that video. In-game free throws, not only does he place the ball higher up but he actually bends his knees.

    With his well documented lack of mental toughness (by his own admission even) and the difference in shooting forms between practice and games, there's really no mystery why there's a huge discrepancy between his free throws in-game and practice..

    Maybe by Skip Bayless and Celtics/Lakers fans. Lebron along with Melo led the clutch stats even before he won a championship.

    He also short arms his shot (doesn't fully extend his elbow) in the GIF -- also a common problem with his in game FTs.
