Given the feminine nature of our players, I think Cheryl Miller would be a perfect fit to coach the team.
Great player. Terrible to mediocre coach. We're actually worse than last year although we added arguably the best center in the league. McHale seems like a good guy but he doesn't seem to be a very good coach. Does Morey not dig deep into analytics for his coaches because there's no way McHale is better than Adelman or Van Gundy.
Look at Rick Adelman in Timberwolves , their corner offense system is beautiful this year. Go ahead Morey. LOL
Unfortunately Morey discarded analytics in favor of emotional ties to the Celtics. And continues to justify his decision with propaganda such as " Mchale is coach of the year candidate" last year. Or trying to diminish the importance of the role of a coach in the success of a basketball team which is the only way to justify Mcfail. "A coach doesn't do much anyways" is the common justification for Mcfail's defenders.
In fact he's(Morey) been playing political way too over. Finally he still have to fire Mchale and find a real coach . Just wondering time as a biggest factor will push mr. Morey to what extent. I think Morey is good at finding underdogs and packaging them well. But that can't hidden he's in control of this team too much.
In addition, when the OP started this thread we had a completely different roster and yet those issues are STILL being made today. So when all these variables are being changed and the one constant is McHale, then I think it's pretty obvious what conclusions we can draw.
One thing Mchale is good at is kissing ass and being Morey's Stamping pad/yes man. Thats the one skill that keeps him from getting fired. Like most people who get their job because of connections, Mchale knows how to double talk in public and keep Morey satisfied. It's frustrating because we could've easily re-signed Adelman who would've done wonders with this team. Morey may have created the vacancy so he could pay back a debt of gratitude to Danny Ainge.
This is to coach McHale: We played Mavs before, why don't we have game plan to counter Mavs zone defense? “Really what won us the game in the fourth quarter was our scrambling mentality on defense,” Nowitzki said. “We trapped James [Harden] off the pick-and-roll, we trapped Dwight [Howard] on the block and just had to scramble out of there. That actually gave us some life, some momentum, some energy, and then we carried it through to the win.” “We took them out of their game when we went to zone,” said Ellis, who cited Houston’s fatigue in the fourth quarter as a factor. “It kind of messed them up a little bit. When we did go back to man-to-man, we got into them and forced them to take tough shots. It's too late, McHale was a big reason why Dwight Howard signed + all players rave about him. I think he's a great personality and especially Harden likes him because he's not held accountable. Makes it even more difficult to let him go.
Definitely some truth there. I don't think the Rockets have ever cut a coach mid-season under Les and Morey.
Only 247 more pages to go! It's not like we're going to win a championship this year so I don't think firing will happen, but I can't see McHale taking us to a championship. Does he even really coach during the games?
Give it a season, where he is the only guy on the court playing defense and plays stupid amount of minutes even in back to backs and I'm sure Howard probably won't shed any tears if McHale was let go.
When McHale was hired, he was assigned to groom our 'transition' group of players (2011-2012). None of the stars were there. Then the story started: Lin became available and in my opinion it was Les choice not McHale's to go after Lin (marketing purpose maybe?), then as Morey honestly admitted, they somehow managed to get Harden, its a big surprise for the FO themselves. Finally, things got more interesting by having Howard to choose us instead of other teams. These things happened in a very short period of time. Its very clear, at least to me, that the original assignment for McHale does not fit with current condition anymore. McHale's current assignment is not to groom youngsters or a transition team but to handle a group of some established players. So far, McHale is doing his best to make things work between his approach and the players characters. Im just hoping they will all adjust fast. Only if the FO knew what would have happened, it might not have been McHale.... so, its nobody's fault....things had gone unplanned...
McHale = Great player but pathetic coach. One of the worst coaches in the league. I started this thread 1.5 years back and nothing has changed. Same mistakes. The excuses are fast running out for McHale and his apologists.
